RSL Reserves v. USMNT[R]

REAL SALT LAKE FALLS 4-0 AGAINST U.S. MEN’S NATIONAL TEAM: Real Salt Lake Reserves dropped a 4-0 decision against the U.S. Men’s National Team at South Field in Provo, Utah. Several RSL starters including FW Jason Kreis, MF Clint Mathis, MF Andy Williams, MF Brian Kamler, DF Rustin Pierce, and DF Brian Dunseth did not play. While four players – DF Eddie Pope, MF Leslie Fitzpatrick, DF/MF Marlon Rojas and FW Dipsy Selolwane – also did not play due to respective national team duties for World Cup Qualifying.

During the first half, RSL GK DJ Countess faced a barrage of shots from the U.S. Men’s National Team holding the nation’s best players to only two goals both scored by FW Brian McBride. Midway through the first half, MF Leighton O’Brien played a ball through to FW Dante Washington, whose first touch pushed the ball too far in front of him ending the fast break. Washington had the last opportunity to put RSL on the board in the first half when MF Chris Brown made a breaking run down the right side and connected a cross on the head of Washington, forcing US goalkeeper to make a save.

Just five minutes into the second half, the US added goal No. 3 when a MF Clint Dempsey slid a shot under GK Jay Nolly, and it added its fourth goal just minutes later when another FW Conor Casey slotted it in. Nolly was tested several times throughout the second half and made some critical saves to hold the national team to only two goals against the RSL reserves.

MF Kevin Novak slid a nice pass through to FW Adam Acosta, who fired a left-footed shot forcing another save by the USMNT. Just five minutes later, FW Jamie Watson chipped a ball over the U.S. back line to a streaking Acosta, who rocketed a shot wide right. The second half concluded with a couple of corners for RSL and ended in a 4-0 loss.

I suppose that isn't too bad. I would expect us to get beat maybe even worse by the USMNT. It sounds like very good experience for our reserves.

There's a couple unfamiliar names for the RSL JV.

Ojuka sounds familiar from BYU's PDL team.

Gregorio as in Adolfo Gregorio from UCLA and currently some English lower division team?

What they give goals for kicking the ball between the legs on the bench now... and why was Nolly trying so hard to keep the ball from rolling under the bench? 😉

But, I bet DJ was glad they weren't puting shots on the net he was standing in.

I guess in a crimage they can make the rules whatever they want? 😲

My question is: Why was DJ out there in the first place? Doesn't that figure into his eligibility for the FC Dallas game? I thought you could only play a total of 90 minutes a week or something. Unless Ellinger's planning on letting Sackett into the game...nevermind.

I like the fact that D.J. got to test his mettle vs. the Nats. My hope is that someday he will get into the National team rotation.

He's on BYU's team. I suppose BYU got some of their players to play in exchange for Men's Nats using BYU's field...
