I watched this last night... wow what a bunch of poor sports. The Panamanian team just started taking dangerous cheap shots after the third goal.

That take down on Dempsey was terrible, it should have been an automatic RED.
That jerk that tried to break Eddie Popes nose should have been strung up... jeez I found it hard to sleep after that cos i was so angry at Panama.

I wish I had stayed up to watch the whole thing. I fell asleep after they scored their 2nd goal. The RSL game just took too much of my energy. If I understand correctly, the USA has now qualified to go to Germany. USA! USA! USA!

I wonder if Eddie will be playing for us in Aug now that he can't play for the national team because of his second yellow card (which was totally bogus btw).

And Keller was amazing on that one sequence where he made 3 fantastic saves. I think DJ is great, but I have to admit to imagining him in a Real jersey making those saves.
Those saves were INCREDIBLE!! Gordon Monson on 1280 yesterday or the day before called him "rubberband man". That sequence was testament to that title!

Mexico and US struggled at times during the 'hex' for WC2002 with the US finally qualifying the next-to-last match, and Mexico finally making it on the very last day. This time they are both taking no prisoners and taking care of business. With the exception of a lone Mexico draw (at Panama?) and the US loss at Azteca, they've won all the rest of their matches and are running away in the standings.

Great pressure by the US attack in the first half, and what an unbelievable sequence of 3 straight saves by Keller. Certainly a much better performance than our last visit to Panama where we got a very undeserved draw.

Definitely going to be a sleepy day at work today.

Next stop Germany!

Not quite yet -sorry. But it is almost a sure thing. We still have T&T and Panama at home. We still need 5 points to guarantee a spot, and those games should get us 6.

I think they would still get called up for their team even if they are mathematically eliminated before this qualifying round continues. Just look at Dipsy. Botswana has been eliminated, yet he still got called up to play this past weekend. Of course, if they don't make it to the cup we don't have to worry about them missing a lot of time next year...

They can be called up, but Coach doesn't have to release them. I'm sure he released Dipsy because he knew that he probably wouldn't be playing. I'm sure that it would be a different story if some of our starters got called up to their national team for a qualifier but they really had no chance of qualifying. He would probably just say no.

Is that true in the US too? I thought that one of the contract dispute things earlier this year had to do with how the National Team could call them up without regard for their other committments. Or something like that?
