On behalf of everyone here, I would like to accept your humble apology. Thanks Old Ska. I hope that you have learned your lesson. Never, never mess with the Loyalists. 😉

I know I said I was done, but I think this whole thread has been based upon a misunderstanding between Ska and I. I thought he was being a smartass by saying...

Like he was telling me I didn't know how to admin vbulletin. Which is something I do on 4 other forums besides this one, one of which has almost 9400 members. he thought he was being concise about asking for the rep to be raised, I thought he was being rude. I misunderstood him.

Then I said that I thought there was already too much rep whoring and that I wasn't going to raise it. The truth is, I don't care that much about rep whoring, I just wasn't going to bump the rep from 10x a day to 20x a day so people could rep their friends more. If people used the rep on posts that were good or witty rather than on a rep orgy and still needed more rep, I'd bump it, but this wasn't what was asked for, so I said forget it. Ska thought I was being rude. He misunderstood me on this count. When I told him he didn't need to tell me how to admin my own forums I was genuinely being an *******, but only because it seems I misunderstood him to begin with.

Then the personal attacks came from each of us came, and that's when the fun started. It shouldn't have happened but it did. Hopefully now it's over. Case closed.

So far bordy and ska want refunds on their contribution for the site, which I am more than willing to provide, and will do as soon as I post this. if anyone else wants one, lemmie know, it's really not that big of a deal to me.

Second, most people, including me, simply hit the "new posts" link and read threads from there. I don't always pay attention to exactly what forum each particular thread happens to be in. Besides, you never know what interesting conversation, such as this one, might pop up wherever, so I tend to read everything no matter where it is.
That is what I do also. I rarely pay attention to the name of the forum.

I don't want rep, I don't want a refund. I use this board to stay in touch with the friends I've made and to learn about the team. The rep whoring posts were getting old but like TV, if you don't like what's on, change the channel. I only ever read the 'new posts' and don't look much where the post is coming from. Maybe we shouldn't have rep at all if it's going to cause this much trouble. 😲

I applaud both Neil and Ska for trying to, in the end, take the higher ground by letting things get resolved instead of fighting to the bitter end. I don't think anybody could accuse Neil of acting unfairly. I think he has been fair in everything he has said. And I'm learning enough of ska's personality to know that he does't mean offense by things, but he isn't afraid to share an honest opinion. People may see this as aggressive or rude but he's really just being assertive and sharing his viewpoints. Many humans will stop talking once they think others disagree with them (see "Spiral of Silence" theory). People don't like to be contradicted. Anyway, as Neil said, time to move on... I just wanted to state a little support for both people involved because I think they were having a healthy exchange of ideas and nobody here should place any judgments because of it.

I must say this was the most entertaining thread I have ever read. If I had more rep points I would give you all a rep.

Thanks for the fun !!

Old Ska, I'm not sure if you can't see this PM for some reason. I haven't gotten a read receipt from you even though I've seen you in private messaging, so I'm going to assume that something might be wrong. Here is the PM that I sent you last night around 11 PM. I just wanted to make sure that you saw it so that we can get things cleared up and move on.

I thought that this might be an appropriate time to make this a little more private instead of hashing this out so publicly. It seems to me as if there has been some miscommunication and some misunderstanding on both of our parts in the current discussion.

And where have I said that the reason the rep limit should be increased is for rep-whoring?
I never said that you said that was the reason that the rep limit should be increased. I said that might be one consequence of the limit being increased that Neil doesn't want to deal with so that is why he won't at this point. If begging for rep weren't such a big deal at this time, I would bet that he would increase the amount of rep that people could give. And that is something I would welcome because I too often run out of rep and run across a rep-worthy post.

But rep is a totally meaningless thing anyways. That is why I find this so laughable.
Believe it or not, I actually agree with you. I actually wish that it would go away. And maybe the fact that it is so meaningless is what bugs me when I have to read so many posts about it. It seems to me that lately a good deal of the focus of the board has been all about getting and giving rep. I'm not saying that is your, or anyone else's, fault. I personally don't really like it especially with the increased traffic the website seems to be generating lately. I would much rather keep posts at least semi-meaningful. Posts about rep really have no purpose at all since rep itself is pretty meaningless. So, we actually agree on this probably more than we disagree.

But I guess a lot of you live and die by it.
I don't think that is the point at all. I actually don't care all that much about rep. In fact, my main problem is that it is getting way more attention than it deserves. If I haven't been more clear about that point, I apologize. I hope you understand it a little better now. If not, I'll continue to try and explain my position better.

Aero, I have had a lot of respect for you previous to today.
Thank you I appreciate that. I have a lot of respect for you too. You bring a lot to the forum that I really appreciate. I hope that after all of this is said and done that we can continue to respect each other too. I actually hope that we can have more than respect and be friends.

But your entry into this thread is odd. And you seem to be reading things into my comments that I have not said.
I apologize if I have misunderstood your points. But I also think that you have misunderstood a few of my points and positions also. This is not the best medium for this kind of communication so hopefully we can do better from now on. I realize that sometimes my writing doesn't always convey exactly the meaning I want it to. English was my worst subject in school. I will try to better understand where you are coming from in the future and to better communicate my intent.

After all is said and done, I hope that this will be something that we can both use to improve the forum and make it a better place.

*Offers hand in friendship*
