Team finishes in 2005 Ok, it's the off-season, not much to do... let's rank how all 12 teams will finish the 2005 campaign.
West 1. LA Galaxy 2. Chivas 3. San Jose 4. Real Salt Lake 5. Dallas 6. Colorado East 1. KC Wizards 2. DC United 3. Columbus 4. Chicago 5. Metros 6. New England You know when you start putting them down, it feels like those top 4 spots are getting a little more tough to come by. There will be 4 teams missing the playoffs instead of 2. That will lead to some good competition. Also KC joining the east could start some interesting KC-DC rivalries... Let's see your list. __________________

I will probably do as well at this as I do on the Jazz picks... I tend to go on what I want to happen more than what is likely!
[Hey Czar... what you doing putting cheetos in front of us?] West 1. Real Salt Lake (Chicago did it!) 2. Smurfquakes 3. Seedy Cheetos 4. Galaxitives (their logo looks like a toilet flushing, so that nick seems to fit!) 5. Dallas 12. Crapids(always last in my book!) East 1. DC United 2. Village People (Crew) (c'mon you have to admit their logo looks like A village people album cover) 3. KC Wizards 4. New England 5. Chicago 6. Metros

I guess I should apologize to you all now... whatever teams I cheer for tend to struggle, so I may be at fault if RSL is no good. The other thing my teams do is get really close and then fail at the last minute. Baseball - favorite team Cleveland Indians. Made it to the World Series twice in the 90s and lost both, including a heartbreaker to a Marlins squad they should have beat. Basketball - favorite team Utah Jazz. Made it to the NBA finals twice in the 90s and lost both, including a heartbreaker to the Bulls on a last minute shot by Jordan. Football - favorite team NY Jets. They suck. Hockey - Calgary Flames. Made it to the Stanley Cup finals last year and lost to tampa freaking bay. NHL then falls apart. International Soccer - Favorite team AS Roma. I started cheering for them around the time they won their scudetto not long ago. Since then they have been steadily getting worse, including being near the bottom of the table this year. So I'm sorry but RSL will probably have the curse of being Jake's favorite team, and subsequently do poorly. __________________

But I know what you mean... I have been a Jazz fan since their second season in Utah! Have been a Colts fan since the Bert Jones days at Memorial Stadium in Baltimore! they are finally having a couple of good seasons but they always come up short! Orioles... don't even talk to me about the Orioles! Nottingham Forest - I started following Forest back when they were in the Premiership... the first season I was a fan they were relegated... now 7 years later... still a fan, they are looking at relegation again... this time to Division One. I don't think it is YOU! and it is not ME! so it must be our tendancy to support the under-dog! Go Real Salt Lake!

I hereby vote we keep Jake and anybody else who wants to cheer for our beloved RSL! And I also hereby vote that nobody here starts talking down our team even IF they end up worst in the league. They're still OUR #1!

Instead of putting the list down of what I think it will be, I am just going to rip Jake's apart (love you man)!
West -LA and Chivas will make post-season but will kill themselves getting there. -SJ are officially the biggest misfits in MLS, they don't make playoffs in 2005 -Dallas might do it, depends on who is teamed with EJ -Col will do better but won't make playoffs (I say that because I am jerk, thats all) -RSL all the way to at least the Conf. Championship. East -DC will die without Stewart and Nelson. Moreno, Esky and Adu cannot save them -Revs will be the best in the East if they find a new back line -Fire will be resurgent. -KC will dominate, only question is Bo (GK) -Crew, if they figure out what went wrong last year, may take it to the Conf. Champs. -Metros are the Metros. Miss playoffs. Quote:

My prediction is that DC and KC will dominate the east, and that Chivas and Salt Lake will become bitter rivals despite our best efforts to make the Crapids our biggest rivals. I also predict that San Jose will see a resurgence and finish better than others here have hinted at!

Jules, Jules...
Why in the world would DC continue without Stewart and Nelson? Sure Gomez, Moreno, Esky and even the wonder boy are good, but without Earnie and Ryan leading them, no way they can maintain that form. I think RSL will be compared to Chivas but there is nothing, absolutely nothing besides year of entry that will establish a rivalry. At leas the Crapids idea is starting with us supporters. Chivas/RSL has no such foundation. As for SJ, good luck with that one. I love the Quakes (as a former Bay Area resident) but they will not have Donovan, Ekelund for sure. DeRosario is still unsigned, they lost Walker and Brown in the Draft. Word is that Agoos and Dyak might retire and rumor yesterday is that Mulrooney wants to transfer (possibly closer to his widow mother in Memphis aka FC Dallas). That leaves SJ in a bad way. Ching and Onstad better have the season of their lives to allow the Quakes any chance of anything.

Okay, okay you bring up some interesting ... errr, reasonable.... errrrrrr... EXCELLENT points! I don't have any defense except that I'm going with my gut feeling. It will certainly be wrong on several, if not most, points, but that's what makes it fun to be a sports fan--you never know what will happen! How the mighty have fallen in the past and oh how the underdogs have had times to surprise the most educated fans!
As for the Chivas/RSL thing, I'm holding to that one whole-heartedly. I don't think it'll be the kind of rivalry we have with Colorado, but I think people will start to really hate the idea of losing to Chivas. Mainly because so far people have talked up Chivas and talked down SLC in different regards. "Salt Lake will have their work cut out for them...." after the expansion draft, etc. We're going to get sick of the media comparing us and we're going to want to prove ourselves. THAT is a rivalry in the making! At least that's my humble (oh sooo humble) opinion. :p
