Dangerous Play?

Was going through my pictures from the WCQ on June 4th and came across this little jem.
At first I didn't think anything of it... but the more I looked the more appalled i became.

What I see...
I see a Costa Rican player deliberately trying to injure Bobby Convey. If you look at the pictures before and after you can see that the player is actually diving and driving his head into the side of his knee.

I want feed back on what other people see in this photo. Do you see what I see or do you see something else?

I would say it was deliberate. Based on the previous pictures, he should have fallen straight forward on both hands. That's the way I see it.

He does appear to be trying to take him out.

Hey, that's my boyfriend he's trying to simultaneously head-butt and pointy-ball tackle...*

*note: yes, yes this is a joke, for those who were not fortunate enough to stalk the USMNT with the other stalkers

I think the Costa Pobre player was so stupid that he thought that he could be more effective by heading the ball while it was on the ground.

Jerk.

Good strategy - they were in fourth place, struggling in qualification. Why not take out the opposition so they are at a disadvantage in later matches?

I didn't realize there was so much hostility between US and Costa Rica. The end of match scuffle that ended in a red card was outrageous! A nice tip of the iceberg for everything else that went on in that match.

😎

Actually, if you look carefully to the before and the after, and remember that Convey is trying to get ahead of him, I think you will see that it was just clumsyness. The guy tripped over his own feet, as Convey was coming around. You can tell that, by the fact that he ends up facing away from Convey. If he was aiming at Convey, he would have ended up face down. For that matter, he probably would have succeeded in taking him out.

No, it was just ineptness. Convey was faster and in his effort to catch up, he tripped.

Not only did he trip over his own feet, isn't this the photo where Convey put the ball between his legs?
