Good points on both sides of the argument. I was originally pushing it more as a joke (though I wasn't the originator of the idea), but thought I could see some merit in doing so as well. Aero's reply made me feel a sinner, while Ska's dissent made me think "why not?". I should say that I'm not embarrassed to be a fan of RSL - and hopefully never will be, so perhaps the paper bag over the head is sending the wrong message. I'm more embarrassed FOR the team. Maybe we can hand them out some paper bags? :D

Or maybe we can all bring black T-Shirts and wear them when/if we pass "the mark". That way we can still show our support, but can indicate that it's a "black day" for RSL.

Dissent based on your fav GM being demoted as opposed to the team sucking are 2 different stories.

A expansion team that is losing a lot is not really grounds for the dreaded PaperBag Head! But do what you feel. 😉
It didn't work to well for the Orlando Magic last year...

Don't you all think it will be, like, really hot inside those paper bags?

I really do hope that you are right. I hope it was a joke, but I wanted to share my opinion on the subject just in case it wasn't.

I think what Chicago's Section 8 did in mid April was brilliant. For those who don't know, Section 8 is a true supporters club in every sense of the word, probably the best one in MLS. And not only did the media notice it (and do a great job explaining it), the MLS leadership took notice as well.

I think that is a totally different situation in Chicago than it is here. I think something like that is appropriate if the FO does something boneheaded like that.

We aren't in the same situation here, but there is nothing wrong with a supporters club having a coordinated effort to express dissent at the team's direction. 1 minute of bags over the head would be perfect. Will it make the team feel bad? Well, I sure hope so.
I guess I feel just the opposite. I'd much rather make the team feel good and let them know that we are behind them no matter what. In fact, I think that if there has ever been a time that the team needed a show of really good support from us, it would be now. They need us to cheer louder and harder than ever.

I guess I'm just more into positive reinforcement rather than negative reinforcement. As I said before, if some of you want to wear bags on your head, by all means do so if you really believe that it will somehow help the team to improve. I won't and never will though.

You should feel like a sinner for seriously considering it even for a second. :D

I guess my point with the Chicago example is that dissent is not wrong on principle. The Chicago fans did it really really well, strong message in a classy way. Paper bags don't have the same class factor, admittedly, but the RSL fans also don't have the strong supporters club that Chicago has, so you have to do things on a smaller scale. There were a handful of naysayers in among the Chicago supporters, but even they have to admit now how cool a statement that was.

If the RSL fans did something it would also show how soccer-savy and smart they are to the rest of MLS. And it would gently let the team and FO know that the fans are sad about what is happening now.

And we are sad. Case in point: no one is suggesting that we might score before the bags are needed. You could cheer extra hard, harder than ever before up until the fateful minute...and should that minute come place a bag on your head for one minute...and then cheer even harder.

Now that idea I really like. Maybe we can make a big deal out of it, even come up with a prize for the player who scores first in the North P...Goal. We bring our Santa hats and when they score (in the North P...Goal) we put them on and cheer twice as long and loud as ever before. Then we award the prize (whatever it is) to the lucky player. We could even probably get the FO to go along with it, so the award would be official.

Huh? Huh? Well I like it, anyway.

Aero, I think you are a "glass-half full" guy.
Be proud. They are rare.
