Roma v. Madrid

The match was a good one. It was a little odd being that the stadium was empty due to the Match 1 antics involving someone hitting a ref with something from the stands, but a good game all in all.

It was even sweet er of course because Real Madrid took Roma to school with a 3-0 victory.

Ronaldo was running around like a chicken with his head cut off, he dominated the game in every way.

**points at Czar and laughs** just kidding...maybe

Ugly match. The Olimpico was empty because some fan hit the ref with a coin or a lighter in Roma's first match and this was the second of two games they had to play behind closed doors. Roma played their reserves, no Totti, Cassano, Panucci, or Montella. Also they gave some of their U-20 newbies some playing time, so there's not that much for Madrid to brag about. Ooh Ronaldo, Becks, Figo, Zidane, and the rest of the crew scored three on a bunch of 18-year-old Italians I can't even remember the names of.

**sticks tongue out at Neil** :D

The game looked like a practice scrimmage, nobody had any hard challenges, there was no crowd (great comment from the pbp guy "This game has all the atmosphere of a tuesday night reserve match at Bedford.") Roma was already eliminated from the CL... it was a throwaway match. And still Ronaldo felt the need to dive in the box, and get the penalty.

Oh well, some experience for Roma's newbies, congrats Madrid and Landon Leverkusen for advancing from the group.

The Ronaldo dive was a little mcuh, not that it mattered. It was weird to see a stadium of that size completely empty. You could hear the palyers and the managers yelling at each other though, which you don't get much.

Yeah the PK didn't matter anyway. Yeah that was weird, especially seeing the mural on the seats "ROMA MAI SOLA" which means "ROMA NEVER ALONE" .... and yet there they were, alone. It was actually kind of interesting to hear Luigi Del Neri yelling to his players, it was interesting to hear what he yelled during the game. He sure yelled out to Delvecchio a lot!

Anyway, it was sort of a surreal feeling, don't you think? I've been to a CL game at the Olimpico, and it sure wasn't like that at all! :D

Luigi was screaming like someone stole his raviolis. I kept wanted to jump up and yell "POLO!!" :D

It felt like they were training even though I knew how important the match was for Madrid. It just goes to show what a huge part of the game the fans are, we need to remember that.

The 3rd goal by Figo was pure style though, the bump, the kick, the distance, all fantastic. I love to see the ball hit the back of the net, regardless of who's playing.

Figo had botched like 3 chances prior to that, and I was chanting "Over-rated" at him. Then he netted that one and I voluntarily ate my words. Absolutely sweet goal.
