Discussion of Principles of Forum Discourse

There is a thread over in another forum talking about general principles of discourse on the forum. The topic is a very important one, but off-topic for the forum it is in, so I will be moving the appropriate posts over here.

Is this in regards to how the two 'factions' interact with each other while sharing the same forums? If so, I'd like to know if there are any 'faux pas', so as not to step on anyone's toes. I also have another question about the dynamic between the two groups, but will wait to make sure this thread is the correct one to discuss it in.

No, I don't think this has to do with anything about "factions" at all.

In the Hymn thread it just turned into a thread that really had nothing to do with the forum it was posted in.

I don't think there are any potential faux pas, at least none that I am aware of.

And I think that either the Loyalists forum of the Rogue Cavaliers Brigade Forum would be good places to discuss this kind of thing. Just pick the one that is more relevant to your concerns.

Is it just me, or do these seem more than a bit contradictory?

Yeah, just be careful not to cross the street without kissin up or you'll just be "moved to an appropriate place".

In defense of old ska, Lucky, most of these threads get out of control and rarely stay to the point of said thread. If there's a new point to be discussed, start a new thread. that's what Old Ska was talking about.

the area was for discussion about the RCB, not about how to discuss board etiquette. The only faction was the thread not being about the anthem anymore, but thread etiquette.

C'mon. That was a totally fair piece of moderating. The thread started to take a huge turn towards being massively off-topic, so I redirected the relevant parts to a place where the parts in question would not be off-topic...no harm was intended.

The simple fact that Neil gave the Rogue Cavaliers Brigade a forum area is also not indicative of some vast conspiracy. It should be noted that no one asked for it, no one who is a moderator in said forum asked to be a moderator, and if you, Mrstucki, Loyal1, Aero and others are so upset/nervous/angry/worried/offended/whatever about it, I will ask Neil to delete the Rogue Cavaliers Brigade forum, no problem. I think Neil sees the forums at realsaltlake.org as being for all things related to Real Salt Lake, not one perspective or one group of people. If, say, a group of lesbian quadreplegic buddhist monks from Friesland who advocate nuking whales got together and started supporting RSL, I honestly beleive Neil would give them a forum too.

It should not be something that causes the types of reactions it has already caused.

No, it only appeared to be off topic because "someone" with mod powers chose to delete "someone's" previous posts in the thread when "someone" apparently realized how foolish they appeared. The posts that were then moved were actually not as random as they may have appeared to be afterward.

Good one. This one made me laugh.

For me, at least, the issue has nothing to do with the moving of off topic posts to preserve a thread. The real issue is the kid in the playground who throws sand in other kid's eyes and then runs over with his buddies and denies it and pretends he had nothing to do with it (said kid would undoubtedly delete any proof of said action if given the chance).

Look, here it is in a nutshell, we're all having a great time at the games and I'm sure there are even greater times ahead. Lifelong bonds and friendships are forming as we all embrace and support the game and the team that we love. This last year has been an overwhelmingly positive time, filled with excitement and one great surprise after another. I, for one, would like that to continue.
So, I've been escorted back to my side of the street, and I'm OK with that. At least here, we all play with the same ball.

And in defence of the truth, the posts that were moved were very much on topic based on where the deleted posts had taken it. Denial, pretending, what's the point in changing the content and shape of a conversation after the fact? You and I and a few others all know better. And that's what I was talking about.
