How what can be done? Narrowing the list down to just 40?

I kid, I kid, I am a BYU alum after all...

Okay, here is how to use the ignore function just in case anyone is unaware...lets say you want to ingore me, OldSka. This means that if I post to a thread you won't see my posts, just a bit of text saying something like "this user is in your ignore list", if I pm you you would see a similar message, and if I rep you you won't see any comment I leave (but the points will count towards your total rep). Go to your user control panel (click User CP towards the top left of your window) and look on the bottom left hand side on the next screen...Buddy/Ignore lists. Type in the name of the person you want to ignore, OldSka, in the appropriate spot, save, and presto! the offending individual will offend you no more.

If you know that you really make someone angry a lot, I suggest putting them in your ignore list...that way the two people who have issues can steer way clear of each other. If someone routinely bothers you, just ignore list them and let your blood pressure return to normal. Maybe your forum browsing time is limited, and you know that certain frequent posters never have anything you find valuable...use the ignore function as a time-saving device. You cannot ignore forum moderators or administrators.

Being in someone's ignore list is not necessarily an insult, in fact if used properly it can help promote peace, love, and harmony in an internet forum. And thats one to grow on.

Is it just me or is this starting to be more and more like bigsoccer. I liked bigsoccer in the beginning because of all the cool info that I could get from it, but after a while, everybody trying to be cooler than the other guy, the insults, and the posing got to be too much to waste my spare time on.

This site has always been the same thing a great font of knowledge...well not knowledge...info, but recently it's starting to be the same thing as bigsoccer. A bunch name calling and pissing matches. What to do? Put everybody on my ignore list?

I suppose it would be better if we didn't have to resort to ignore lists.

That's the reason for the ignore list...so you can personalize what you want to read. If you feel someone is trying to be mean, ignore them.

True, but that also gives away some personal responsibility. Just a thought....

NOw i'm not an abrasive type. I'm actually the nicest guy you'll ever meet. Some people are abrasive and don't come off quite nice especially online. If i don't like to read his posts for whatever reason, i can choose to igonre him. that's not giving away any personal responsibility.

I'm sure everyone has a poster they already don't read. just adding them to an ignore lists saves loading time.

I would be an exception to that. I don't like the idea of rejecting something categorically just because of the name attached to it. You never know when you are going to find a nugget in something somebody writes, even if normally you disagree with everything else he/she says.

I will admit that sometimes people have thin skin, and it is easier to come off as abrasive.

The personal responsiblity I was referring to is when people are purposefully doing it.
