We're not Chivas, but we're not Dallas or LA either.

Oh, you know. At of the matches earlier in the year (galazy?) we were chanting "are you chivas in disguise" to their players. It was pretty good, I thought. Some in the Loyalist section started it and it gravitated to several surrounding sections.

I just wanted to foster discussion about who we really are as a team. The easy answer is "We're RSL!" But are we underperforming or overperforming?

Ahhh, I think that this thread may die an early death.

It's late.

Well, we are not the RSL that everyone thought we would be before the season started. RSL was, according to the media, going to be a defensive powerhouse. If Countess was not the caliber of player he is (he is a player I would be entirely comfortable seeing on the USMNT) our # of goals conceded (a good, but not perfect, way of assessing defensive strength) would be really, really terrible.

If I remember correctly, for a very short time some of the RSL staff were trying to sell us on the idea that the media was all wrong and that RSL would be a very offensive team. We have the worst offense in MLS (if you measure by total goals scored).

So we aren't what the mdia or FO told us we would be in pre-season. We are an expansion team in a slump.

If I had to pick another team we are like I would go with, lets see...

Okay! West Brom! Promoted last season, in last place at Christmas, but ultimately survived relegation. I see RSL as getting that 4th place spot back and making the playoffs (the closest thing we have to promotion/relegation).

It is Christmas in MLS and we are West Brom.

I'm with Ska on this one. Our goals conceded would be a lot worse if Countess didn't manage to be in the right place in the right time on numerous occasions. He's done a lot better than I think a lot of people believed he could, and that's been nice to see.

Offensively, we're hurting, there's no doubt about that. I love Jason Kreis, but I think we need to see more people taking shots on goal then just Jason. It seems like whenever you see the ball land at the feet of Mathis, the next place you'll see it headed is on the way to Kreis. C'mon Cleetus, take the shot. I think what makes players like Watson and Trembley so fun to watch is that they try to get the goal, not pass it to someone who people think should take the shot.
