Real Salt Lake (RSL) v. Real Salt Lake City (Real SLC)? Is it just me or is anyone else starting to get annoyed at all of the references to RSL appearing in some publications as Real SLC or Real Salt Lake City?
Some might say there is no difference but I, for one, see a huge difference... the biggest being that the word 'City' appears nowhere on either the logo or any official RSL news releases pertaining to the club name! Am I the only one that is annoyed by this? Last edited by Deuce : 12-10-2004 at 04:23 PM.

😉 No, you are not alone. I also find it annoying. However, the name of the city is Salt Lake City, and if they are determined to show their ignorance that's as good a method as any. Just consider the source.:p

I think it's pretty important that they named it Real Salt Lake without the word city. "Salt Lake" can mean the Salt Lake valley, county or just imply the Wasatch Front. Salt Lake City goes from 20th North or whatever to 39th south, and from about 30th East to like 40th west (forgive me if I'm off a little bit, I'm going off memory from what I heard a long, long time ago). That's not a very big city by itself. By naming it just Salt Lake, they gave it that "soccer is a city sport" feel without actually limiting it to one city. And if the stadium ends up in Murray they'll have an answer to the question "why don't you play in the city you're named after?"
Plus, that extra word or letter just makes it sound bad. Hopefully this doesn't become a trend among the media, fans and players the way "the" MLS has.
