True it is a private software package, but you can use it for free on a trial basis. www.mirc.com

Tha Java chat is under the GPL license, so you can use it at work, at your house, with a mouse, in a box, with a fox. It's free.

And SoccerPrime is right, you can download mIRC for free, you can pay for it if you like it. But there's plenty of free IRC clients out there if you're into that.

Also, when I woke up this morning I looked at the chat screen and it showed people join for 30 seconds, than quit. Usually a minute or so later someone else would join and do the same thing. Hang out for a little while, people will join.

Besides mIRC, Trillian has a rather family friendly free IRC client function.

I am trying to enable port forwarding on my wireless router to open ports 6660-6669. I try to log in and it tells me that I need to install identd. I also installed Trillian to see if that would work and it doesn't connect me. I suppose I could connect directly to the cable modem without using the wireless router and that would work. I have this problem when I try to set up a Counter Strike Source server too. It's my router blocking ports, it's just a pain to get it set up right.

My husband says, "Looks like he's running Line-X .. I mean Luuuuunux."

He also says, "Heyyyy!" as he sees me typing that.

I'm using Trillian, and am in right now. No crazy mods needed on my end. However, the "Identd" problem struck me when trying to use the java client.

Ok who is impersonating the Deuce... I mean me?

PS what is identd...? It says to install it to use the server...
