Downtown Stadium a dream?

It's not a dream. I think one of the main reasons RSL has been entertaining non- downtown offers is to keep the fire lit under SLC.

Unfortunately, we have a mayor who has disengaged after apparently deciding against a third term. Even when he was paying attention, he was crap at organizing projects and making things happen. There's a reason the only meaningful development under his administration came from the church.

Also, at the county level, the new county government is still too new to stand up to the major players (Dolan, Curtis, etc) in the valley who are willing to wreck RSL in an effort to keep the stadium out of Rocky's hands.

The public money debate is a red herring. It's not the actual problem. We use public money all the time for private developments. The problem is the growing political and social divide between SLC and the suburbs.

When I say our petition I refer to myself and many of the fans in our section who sit around us. Everyone is very adimate about the stadium. We will try to get other signatures before games.

Rice-Eccles has seating for 45,600; RSL wants a 25,000-seat stadium. The team has been averaging 12,000-15,000 fans in its inaugural season.

Am I the only one who notices that last number? 12,000-15,000? The only game we've had under 15,000 was the Chivas Wednesday night game, right? Is this guy reporting incorrect numbers to skew thoughts? Perhaps trying to point out that RSL is ridiculous in wanting a 25,000 seat stadium since they can only get 12,000 or is he trying to point out just how awful it is for our piddly crowd to be in a 45,600 seater and we need something smaller. All I do know, is that including the number 12,000 in our average crowd is just plain wrong. If you want to exclude the Qualifier, that's fine, you could even exclude the opener and still the average wouldn't fall below 15,000 I'd wager.

Just did the math. Excluding the WCQ and the Católica matches Real is averaging 17,619. If you take out the opener it is just over 16,000.

YES! but even 16k is still 1k more than the suggested minimum(by politicians) that would be needed to declare RSL a success.

I had an epiphany tonight. I was watching the u-20 match between Argentina and Brazil. At a certain point, the comentator mentioned that they were playing in a stadium that held 25,000. That is our magic number. RSL wants a 25,000 seat stadium. Of course during the match I couldn't see much of the stadium so when it was over, I looked it up. It's called Galenwaard Stadium in Utrecht, Holland. Here is a link to some photos of the stadium.
Guys, we could have something just like this for RSL. Can you imagine? It was at this point that I realized I no longer care in what part of the valley our home may lie. If we were able to build a home like this I would be happy to be anywhere in the valley. Look at these photos and compare them to the RES experience. We NEED our own 25,000 seat stadium. Let make sure we don't sign a long term contract with RES, then we can begin the fight for position.
