I can't stand games with the Wizards. Gansler plays a counterattacking style, which means they hold the ball deep and occasionally lob it upfield to a lone forward. They put you to sleep, wait for you to make a mistake, and then exploit the error when you (inevitably) do. It's been very effective for them over the years, but is limited when used against good teams--like in the MLS Cup Final last year. Against poor teams, it usually results in a 1-0 win. However, they tend to play up--or down--to the level of their competition. If they look past us--and why wouldn't they?--we can surprise them. And because they play defensively, it's usually hard for them to come back when they've dropped a goal or two. Of course, we'd have to score a goal first--on the road, and on a grass field. But mostly, a Kansas City game is just boring, boring, boring, boring. No wonder they can't draw fans to their games. I wouldn't expect much "game atmosphere" at Arrowhead. I sure didn't when I saw them beat Metro earlier this season. The score in that game? 1-0. __________________

1-0 sounds like an okay end result. I used to be happy with a tie. Now I'm happy with a loss where the other team scores fewer than four goals.
Okay, enough whining. Go RSL! I still love ya!!

I completely and utterly agree with Rover.
His analysis is right on. It has everything to do with their coach, Gansler, who is a good coach, but loves to play bunkerball. KC is very hard to score on with great defenders like Garcia and Conrad (who is gone for the GC?). They have some threats up front in Klein and Arnaud (I think Wolff is still out with Pope and friends). Its going to be a tough one, no doubt. On the plus side, Broom should be in for this one.

I'll try to be in the RSL.org chatroom during/after the game if anyone wants to chat about it.

Mango, how far away are you from Milwaukee? Houston? Hopefully, there's no crowd trouble between you and either of the Wizards' fans. Did you call up the Wizards' office and ask what time the game kicked off and did they say, "What time can you be here?"

One story from the KC game I went to in May. I'm taking a group of four with me--all soccer novices, what a mistake--and we're sitting in the club seats. Normally,a good thing, but the crowd was so small we decided at halftime to move to the lower level. So we get down to the lower level and the usher wouldn't let us go there. I mean, there are something like 40,000 empty seats just on that level, and she wouldn't let us go. So we did what any fan does in such a situation--we went to the next section where the usher was asleep and found some seats among the team's friends and relatives who had wandered in off I-70. The bad news is that I may never get those guys to another MLS game. I should have known better. __________________ Easy to be hard; hard to be smart. --Old Gunny Last edited by Rover : 07-15-2005 at 05:06 PM.

Houston= 9 hours Milwaukee= 12 hours I am not small so I don't think there will be any crowd trouble, I'll just open up a big ol can of whoop @** on them if they do. This is provided anybody shows up for KC, like you say, I might be the only person there.

At least you'll be able to hear the players trashtalking loud and clear. With all the cheering, drumming, and chanting at RSL games, you can't hear a thing. __________________
