I particularly like this quote. It exactly matches my views.

And I think it's more common than many may think.

We want success, of course, but we're in this for the long term. We're building more than a team--we're building a club, and all that comes with that.

The FO is doing things the right way--success will soon follow.

Good catch, Jim

The blog is kind of a clever idea...don't expect to see anything really provocative out of it, but I do really like the overall concept.

Don't like the blurb about Mr. Beckham and MLS, though. If I got paid a dollar every time I heard some U.S. journalist throw out the idea, I won't be working nearly so hard.

I mean, I understand the logic, and it probably could happen at some point in the future, but DO NOT throw out the idea unless you've got something substantive to add. The fact that Beckham states that he'd love to play in MLS someday means absolutly NOTHING! Players in Europe say things like that all the time, but in Beckham's case, it doesn't mean he's going to hop on a plane suddenly and "logically" end up playing with the Galaxy.

Becks has also stated several times that he intends to finish his soccer career with Madrid.

Okay (breathes in), I'm now climbing off my soap box.

I agree Throw, the "Becks to USA" motto is beginning to to get annoying. When ESPN interviewed Becks a few weeks ago about coming to the USA, he basically answered by saying "when I retire"...at least thats what I heard.
But it is cool the idea of MLS getting more Euro/Latin stars. I just hope MLS doesn't grow too big for their britches.

I think the Blog is awesome idea. Please encourage your bosses to continue to support it. We will!

Yes, Soccer Prime. Beckham and his people badly want to expand his marketability here in the States. That's likely why he answers those questions that way. He gets so much more airplay by flirting with the subject rather than by flat-out shutting down the interviewer. I also like the idea of having more Euro stars at least consider coming over here to the MLS. But at the end of the day, I hope the league can continue to expand the way it has. Overall, I don't see how having a 35-year-old Beckham who steals all the attention away from actual soccer being a great long-term thing for MLS. I guess it never would be a long-term plan, but hopefully people can continue to look at MLS as a viable soccer league and not as a mediocre show featuring an old man (if Beckham ever did come).

I'm surprised that the Trib currently has just five blogs and that Lauren's blog was one of them. I guess they're giving her more and more ownership of the beat as we approach football season, which means that Lewis will be off covering the Ewwetts.
