Reconciliation

This is in someways a continuation or attempt to resolve things addressed inthis thread.

On Monday afternoon there was a meeting held at the FO between leaders of The Loyalists and RCB. It was suggested by the FO and the primary objective was banner space. I think everyone present felt like it was a good idea and good came out of it.

Some apologies and clarifications were tendered. I feel like groundwork was laid that will lead to great things. It was Reyjavik-esque. 🙂

I think more talk of the incident online will not improve relations. It would have to be in person, in real time, where body language and tone can help better understanding. And I don't think even that is needed. Please let it slip into the lore of RSL and not remain in the present.

The Loyalists are now releasing this statement. It is meant to be a guideline and not dogma between Super Soccer Supporters.

"The Loyalists support and encourage the efforts of other supporters groups. We strive to work together to create an enjoyable atmostphere for both the team and the fans during games. While personal differences naturally arise between individuals and creative differences may be noted between groups,*the goal of the Loyalists is to work with other supporters in a healthy and beneficial way."

Thanks, Loyal1. This is the road we should be on.

We're still very much in the sales business with soccer in Utah and the country as a whole. Great strides have been made, but we're not yet where we need to be.

Each group that supports RSL can contribute to the growth of soccer and the success of our club. We can also damage things if we aren't careful. Newbies are watching, and if they don't like what they see they won't be back.

There's room for everyone and all different approaches to game support. We should be proud to have three organized group already, and who knows how many other groups are coalescing right now? That's what we're about--support the club with passion and intensity, and do all we can to grow the fanbase of the team.

Was there an attempt, on some level, to create a Section 8-like umbrella organization?
I figured with Pastorino involved, he would suggest something like that.

No. Things are still in flux but that's what I'd like to see eventually.

Trey reiterated that they are here to give the level of support that we ask for. They will not impose a format on anyone.

BTW Consider this the minutes to the meeting:

We talked about the incident and resolved things.
We talked about chants and enlarging the repetiour (sp?)
Trey talked about today's event at Lumpys.
Pastorino stopped by and said "Hi, anything I can do?" and went back to viewing scouting tapes.

The meeting ended with with a group hug. Then I paid for the rest of the Aug 6 tickets and a few other things but you really don't want to know about all that.🙂 I left with more respect for everyone there, myself included;)

I for one would like to see more chants coming out of the other groups. Most of the chants right now are ones that the Loyalists came up with and I hope other groups don't feel we are trying to dominate things. I would welcome new cheers. Perhaps if the groups could pass out some of their cheers to each other then all groups would feel more represented.

We also seem to have to resort to using the same chants several times in one game. Would certainly help to have a greater variety.

One thing about the cheers.

Lately the cheers have been spreading enough that we are starting to pick them up in 37. I tried to jump in a couple of times Saturday, but they ended before I could get a hold of them and encourage my neighbors.

I don't know how long the chants last, but perhaps if they lasted a bit longer, we could anchor them in 37.

That would be sweet. And loud. And sweet.

my two cents

I tend to stand with the RCB and Jesters. I have really enjoyed it and have liked cheering with fugote and others. Last game I noticed that not everyone thinks all the cheers are cool enough to chant. I can see that to a point. I personally don't participate in cheers that include vulgarity but I do cheer along with any other cheer even ones I don't particularly think are cool. I understand if folks don't want to do every cheer but I hope that we can have more cooperation than we had. Some of the people around me were changing the lyrics or making fun of the chants. I hope that the RCB would join in on most of the Loyalist chants and viceversa maybe last game the RCB didn't want to join in because they are forming their identity still. I don't really know. My point is simply this. I understand if the RCB doesn't like cheers they consider corny because I don't like ones I consider vulgar, but I hope that we can both join in on the majority of each others cheers. We need each other especially if we are going to get the others, like section 37, involved.

I agree, I noticed the same thing.
