MLS Week 21 Attendance Numbers for this week, home team listed first:
17 August CRapids-Revs: 6,881 19 August KCW-Fire: 7,724 20 August Crew-FCD: 15,525 DCU-LA: 18,863 RSL-Quakes: 15,127 21 August Metro-sc: 15,787 League average through 21 weeks: 15,110 Notes: 1. League Leaders. Five teams are above the league average at this point: LA: 23,570 RSL: 19,020 sc: 18,166 Fire: 17,401 DCU: 16,173 2. Real Numbers. If you take out the numbers for doubleheaders, only three teams are averaging above 15,000: LA: 23,570 RSL: 17,059 DCU: 16,173 3. RSL Attendance. RSL now will have a very tough time averaging over 20,000 for the season. With four home games left, we’ll have to average 22,941 a game to hit the 20K mark. But an average of 18,000 for the season is within reach—we’ll have to average around 15K the rest of the way to hit that mark. __________________

Rover, I'd rep you for this info, but I already gave you rep on another post. It's nice to know that we're still getting good support for our lads. I look at the cRapids numbers and wonder how much longer Colorado is going to have a team. I'm also thinking it's entirely possible that RSL will have more fans at Investco Field than Colorado on Oct 1.

I'd second that. The Front Range has plenty of soccer and some of the best youth clubs in the country (the Rush come to mind) but playing at Mile High and now Invesco, the soccer atmosphere is lacking. They're averaging 12,618 this year, which isn't bad but isn't good either. They've had no doubleheaders to boost attendance, but they did draw their usual big crowd (41,987) on July 4th (although they've drawn 20K more than that on July 4th in the past). __________________

Their stadium is half built, they're not going anywhere. Dallas does much worse, but they're not going anywhere either. They'll both pick up quickly now I believe. Maybe we should give their SC a few pointers on how to get some atmosphere going. (How long until JasonMa shows up and we get some good smackdown going again?) | |||||

I love seeing these figures from LA Every time I go to LA I always laugh, the last time we were there they announced something like 23,544 if I remember correctly and as they said it I about peed myself laughing. There was maybe, possbily stretching it, pushing it to the limits 12,000 people there. So afterwards I was chatting to a security guard and I asked him if they just made up the numbers, he said 'well they did tell us that we would always have over 20,000 here even if the stadium was closed to fans, they said they would be number 1 in the league, I guess they are huh dude ...' he said it with the biggest grin on his face. So now I look at those numbers and I think 'uh huh, LA Galaxy, yeah, you can call it whatever you want but everyone knows the truth'. :banpoop:

Any time we talk attendance it's understood that there is likely a bogus factor involved. The official attendance at Metro today was 15,787, and if you saw the game on DK you know that could not be right. But there it is. Attendance is a touchy subject since if it's low the soccerbashers will be the first to note it. The league has an interest in keeping attendance at a respectable (re: major league) level and that means at least 15,000 a game. The best I hope for is some consistency at each site, so we have an idea of how each team does relative to its own attendance average. As for the HDC, I've been to many games there over the years and by and large the place is usually full. Now, it's LA, so it's only actually full sometime between the 30th minute and the halftime signal. Arrive late, leave early, as they say. And if they count tickets sold rather than tickets punched, they can have empty seats and still have their 20,000+. In the end, if MLS counts it as official then I'll list it on these posts. Take the numbers however you see fit. What I do know is that LA, RSL, and DC are doing well, while KC and San Jose are not. __________________

Oh, I wasn't having a go at you for giving the numbers, I underdtand how it needs to be. It's just that it is always expected that around 2000 more than attended is normal to report, once in a while someone will have a dreadfully attended game and they'll go for 3000 or even 4000, but LA blatantly lie, they add 10,000 sometimes, they do often have good crowds but even when they don't they'll add 10,000 which to me is unacceptable.

Understood. They have a reputation to keep going. Flagship franchise and all that. __________________

🙂 Okay, I'll say it...
I'm thinking our numbers aren't all that straight, either. At least some of our games have looked nearly empty and still been reported at 15000 plus. <Duck & Cover> let the flames begin... __________________
