Belgian women's team lose 50-1

LMAO!!

BRUSSELS (Reuters) - Belgian women's soccer team SK Berlaar had to stomach a 50-1 defeat against rival KV Mechelen on Saturday because their goalkeeper had opted to attend a music concert instead, a local newspaper said.
"Our keeper went to Pukkel Pop. That's why," substitute goalkeeper Charlotte Jacobs told Het Laatste Nieuws daily on Monday.

KV Mechelen scored their first goal after only four seconds.

"At half-time the score was 27-0. But after half-time we were able to recover. We had to stomach only 23 goals and we scored once ourselves, right at the end. They allowed us to score. That was sweet of them," Jacobs added.

Kind of makes our 5-1 loss seem pretty trivial!

If any team needed to bunker, it was this one.

Somebody step up, put on the gloves, get in the frame, and block some shots!

Ouch. That is pretty sad.

Did they just not play anybody in goal? Or did they play someone who hadn't played since they were 9?

Just remember if your life sucks, someone else's sucks worse.

Can you imagine if it comes down to a tiebreaker at the end of the season and they have to go by goal differential?

Who says soccer is low scoring?

The amazing thing is that it was only the second-highest score (in competitive matches) in women's soccer history, and the third-highest score if you include men's and women's soccer.

The highest score that women's soccer has ever seen was the following, in England:
Mar. 4, 2001 - Willenhall Town 57-0 Burton Brewers

That would also be the highest score that a team ran up against opposition that was actually trying to defend, because the only higher score in all of soccer was a result of a team scoring own-goal after own-goal after own-goal in protest of a referee decision. In Madagascar's top division, on October 31, 2002, the final matchday of the 2002 season, AS Adema defeated Stade Olympique de l'Emyrne by a score of 149-0, with all 149 goals being own-goals.
