According to this article (http://www.lared.com.gt/internaCont.asp?idc=42470&id_cat=219), Guate is going into the T&T match with the "common place" 4-2-2-1-1 formation. Strange.
Anyhow, Cabrera seems to be lined up centrally on the back line which is his normal spot. I just found out the other day from a friend in Guatemala that the fans nicknamed him "Ron Ron", which is a fly sort of like a gnat, since Gustavo sticks to his opponent and never lets him leave. Oliva 25 - nice dancing banana. That thing is hysterical.

SO what does Cabrera bring to the game that RSL doesn't have? Poise on the ball and better distribution? Pace? Is he going to be used as a CB or is Ellinger looking to play him in the midfield?

All of the above. He's truly a class player. You're talking about a senior international player that has won numerous championships as the defensive leader with his club in Guatemala and his national team (they won the CONCACAF Cup or something a few years ago). Other than Eddie, you can't say that about the other defenders on RSL. He's the best his country has to offer. Yes, it's a smaller country but they have a strong soccer league compared to other Central American countries so it is a good honor. Big difference between him and guys that made their name playing collegiate ball well like Broom, Pierce et al.
He's strong in the air, will NOT let the opponent have any breathing room and is a tough SOB on the tackle. He's also much more apt to play the easy ball. Not as much clearance as settle and pass small. He's also go one of the most impressive air of integrity on the field. He just doesn't give up. It's amazing how much this kid lays it all out in the park every match. I've touted his capabilities often here, maybe someone else wants to grab the baton to lend some credibility? My $0.02. PS I've not seen him play midfield in his duties with Guatemala since he played in the Olympic qualifiers when he was 20. The guy seems to me to be best suited as a defender.

I would agree. I have seen him play a few games for his ex club los cominicaciones (BOO!), and the Guate nationals. He's best suited on the back line. He's played well on the left for RSL but his primary is right.center... i am really excited about this guy.
