Spiral Jetty : Have You Been There?

Have you been to see the Spiral Jetty up off of Rozel Point?

Spiral Jetty... it is one of those odd ball things you need to go see just because.

Then when conversation lags you have an instant jump starter with something like this... "So, when I went to the spiral jetty..."

Always worth it for the sheer randomness that is the spiral jetty.

I studied it in an art class. It's actually world- famous.

Did anyone know there is another piece of art out in the west desert just as impressive though not as famous?

I don't know what it's called, but it's some huge cement things like tubes, and the sun lines up or something. I'm trying to remember more than just thinking it was really cool.

Oh, and the tree. If you've driven to Wendover, you've seen the tree.

I wouldn't call it world famous 😉 , but people in art classes all over the world have heard of it because of its sheer oddity. It was fun when we spent all of 3.2 seconds on it in my high school art class in Oklahoma to say that I had been there an seen the thing in person.

However, we also studied the "tree" that you see on the way to Wendover... I think we covered these things during the "Odd art in Utah" portion of the class.

Utah should change its slogan from "greatest Snow on Earth" to "Oddest Art on Earth." If we did that perhaps Yoko Ono would pay us a visit and then we could boo her for screwing up John Lennon.

Those tubes are called the Sun Tunnels.
They were actually made by the wife of the guy that made the Spiral Jetty.
Each solstice and equinox the sun and certain star constellations line up with the tunnels and holes placed in the sides of the tunnels.

It is called "Metaphor: The Tree of Utah" and it is in the middle of the Bonneville Salt Flats off Interstate 80, 25 miles east of the Utah/Nevada State line. 90 miles west of Salt Lake City.

If you ever want info on Iosepa, I'm your man. That web site of Ghost Towns of Utah misses the boat (voyaging canoe?) in a big way on it.
