Rugby is a lot of fun to watch, but I'm still trying to figure out the rules. Attended the US-Chile match in Murray a few years back. One very redeeming feature that Rugby shares with our favorite sport is they don't have time outs. They have 40 minute halves with injury time.

Try this then...

The best site about Rugby Rules in existence. Easy to read, interesting and quite comprehensive.

It explains the rules and differences between the two schools of Rugby

1) Rugby Union (International Rugby)

2) Rugby League

Deuce, you're the man. Do you go to any games? I think the eagles had a couple utah based players the last time they played including from the UofU.

rabble-rabble, feel free to pester me with any questions you have on the game. I know I always grumble when I hear platitudes like this but Rugby (union) is the game American football shouldn't been. Big players hittin' the crap out of each other w/out pads with a game that isn't stopping every 3.7 seconds an, players that have to play offense and defense, and they have to run enough so you don't get uber-specialization where some player is on the team just to play run defense on those 3 and 2, 4th and goal from the 1 situations.

Rugby is the second most exciting sport in the world.
Once you know the rules it does not seem nearly as chaotic and violent!

I love Rugby!

I have been to a couple of Nottingham Corsairs (League 1) & Leeds Rhinos (Premiership) matches, both are Rugby League.

None of the Utah or BYU matches. Yet!

Rugby!!!

As a Highland High alum, it is almost a given that I love rugby. I attended all their games last year and I still plan to this year. And now that I'm going to the U I should probably start going to those too LOL

I was . . . kidding.

I played Rugby in England before most of you were born, thank you very much. 😉

Tried to teach the neighborhood kids to play pointyball but they just couldn't get it. We refused to play cricket and they refused to play rounders . . . er . . . baseball, so the compromise was rugby.

As for Aussie Rules--it's a very different game. It's more related to Gaelic Football. It's much more freeflowing and soccerlike, but since it's played on a huge oval field (usually a cricket ground in the past) with 18 players a side. Rugby is more like American Football than Aussie Rules, in my opinion, but all three games are very distinct.

Of course, all these games have a common ancestor, so they all can rightly claim the name "football." For trivia types, that name comes from the fact that the game is played on foot and not on horseback, like polo.
