When RSL started there was an expansion draft in which teams were forced to leave a certain number of players available for the pickin's. I asume something similar will be held in the case of Toronto. That being said, will Americans be considered Señor Internationals ( 👍 ) if they play for Toronto? That could make things very tough on Toronto. Am I right?
IIRC at the supporters summit in Dallas last year, Don Garber was asked about the foreign player allocations for a Canadain team.
He said that Canadians will be playing as domestic players for Toronto and Americans will be internationals... and vice versa.

---
I wonder why that is gong to happen... Why is north america just not considered domestic... that way all Americans, Canadians, Mexicans, Panamanians Costa Ricans and Carribean nations etc... etc... are all domestics.

In the current situation... Toronto FC will be the only Canadian team so it will probably just be the Canadian national team on the field...

It will be a b***h for national team callups tho... not that Canada will have to worry about that for awhile... LOL

I'm guessing MLS is concerned about running into the discrimination laws. It either has to be citizens/green cards and everyone else, or everyone in the same classification

I was discussing this with an MLS GM today while watching the Newcastle /Celtic match (cue Fox and his anti-Celtic rant). He suggested that it had to do with some FIFA influence, particularly given that MLS now will be crossing national boundaries which is not something FIFA has ever been keen on in Division 1 leagues or equivalents (although it has been allowed, the APSL and ISL being examples on this continent).

Maybe Toronto is unknowingly paving the way for Celtic and Rangers to play in the EPL. Although, it won't happen; too many powerful clubs (Chelsea, Liverpool, Arsenal, etc) fear Celtic would steal their chances at Champions League.

Even MLSnet is getting pessimistic these days. Toronto FC will join MLS and Fold in 2007?

I believe currently, Toronto FC will have all the same rules that other MLS teams have, except that Americans count as SIs and Canadians are domestics.

Also, TFC will have 3 or 4 additional SI picks, as long as they are Americans.

So 12 of the possibly 28 players HAVE to be Canadian.

As for schedule, Garber said that they have a committee (with Arena on it) trying to figure out the best schedule for a possible 13 team league.

And most likely, TFC will be in the East Conf.

Yes they SHOULD do a Single Table, but besides Garber mentioning it as a maybe-sorta-possible option, everything looks like an unbalanced 6 team West and 7 team East at this point.

Unless, you have heard something different?

Do you think it'll be as hard for Toronto to build a winner as it has been for us? I for one can't wait until next year, when there may well be one team worse off than us.

Then again, they'll probably outdue all expectations...
