MetroStars Reserve Player Encounter

[Aerick]

While I was on business visiting a client in New York City these past two days, I discovered that the "maintenance" guy for this company had actually played for the MetroStars reserve team up until very recently! He noticed the desktop wallpaper I had on my laptop (Clint Dempsey USMNT Nike wallpaper), and was like "Whoa! You like soccer???" His name was Angel (didn't catch his last name), and we talked for a little bit about MLS and his career with the MetroStars and how he's trying to get back into the organization, but with the low pay and the fact that he has to support himself, it's very difficult. Apparently, he's from Honduras and doesn't have a large support system here in the US.

At any rate, that was very interesting. I told him that a bunch of us out in Salt Lake were doing our best to help soccer become more successful in the US partly in the hopes that it will raise the salary levels for players.
