Spanish international 'keeper Iker Casillas could be on his way to North London according to weekend reports

The 24-year-old is in the last year of his Real Madrid contract and has not been offered a new deal by the Spanish giants.

"I've not sat down with anyone from Madrid to discuss a new deal for Iker," said his agent Gines Garvajal.

"We are waiting for the call but if not, from 1 January we can talk with other clubs."

With Manchester United having solved their goalkeeping problems with the signing of Edwin Van der Sar, Arsenal are the front-runners to tie up a deal ahead of next season.

Nooooooooooooooooooooo...

Arsenal could move for Casillas

It is no secret the Gunners are on the lookout for a top-class goalkeeper, with Jens Lehmann and Manuel Almunia unconvincing whilst Mart Poom is only a stop-gap in terms of back-up.

And manager Arsene Wenger will no doubt have been alerted by the news Real Madrid ace Casillas has still to extend his contract, meaning he is available for a Bosman transfer in the summer.

"I have not sat down with anybody to talk about Casillas' contract renewal," his agent Gines Carvajal said. "There has not been an offer or a counter offer. The priority is for Iker to stay at Real Madrid.

"We are waiting for a call from the club but if Madrid don't do that before January 1 we can talk to other clubs. But I insist, the player wants to stay at Madrid and is willing to make a sacrifice to do so."

Although Casillas, 24, would much prefer to stay in Madrid, reports in Spain suggest a move for Juventus ace Gigi Buffon is on the cards, meaning the Spaniard may well have to move on.
