Have you seen it? Maybe you could add an [R] to the title of the thread and give us a review? 🙂

I have, twice (Once at the special sneak peek showings in May and once on opening night). I don't have the ability to change the thread title, but once somebody does I'll post a review.

Damn good movie. As a die-hard fan of the show I don't know how it sits with the newcomers, but it hits all the notes that made the show so enjoyable. There is obvious growth in these characters from the time that's passed in the 'Verse between the show and the movie. Mal's become darker, Simon has become more confident, Book and Inara have moved on for thier own reasons, etc. Things that happened in the series show up in the movie, but not in a way that you need to have seen the series to understand them. For example, the MULE that they have is now a 4-person hovercraft that replaced the ATV MULE that they destroyed in the series.
But enough of the nitty-gritty. The main plot continues the "What's wrong with River" plot from the series, but the beginning of the movie catch you up on what happened to her to make her this way. The Alliance is still trying to find her and take her back, before she can spill the secret she gleaned when they introduced "key members of parliment" to her, even though she's a pychic. Oops. Meanwhile Mal and the crew of Serenity are on the "raggidy edge" trying to find work that will kepp the ship flying, while keeping Simon and River away from the Alliance. Of course the Alliance tracks down River and uses a subliminal message to activate her, which causes her to remember the secret she has. This leads to an even darker secret that the Alliance can't have exposed involving Reavers. The final battles are well staged and unlike most movies Joss Whedon makes you believe that anyone can die, mainly by killing someone. There was a point where I thought all the talk of a sequel was a smokescreen for the real twist that nobody survives. Eventually, of course, the good guys win, but not without lasting damage that will never fully repair itself. Nathan Fillion and Summer Glau are the stars of this movie, and Summer might be on her way to stardom. But that's not to minimize the performances of the other cast members. You can see that this is a cast who really enjoys working together and loves the work thier doing. Joss Whedon has successfully translated the show to the big screen. "I aim to misbehave"

What exactly was Mal's Rebellion fighting the Alliance for anyway?
I forget. | |||||

It was basically for their independence and the right not to be told what to do by people with no idea what their circumstances were. Kind of like the American Revolution.

Mal from one of the series opening narrations: "Here's how it is: Earth got used up, so we terraformed a whole new galaxy of Earths, some rich and flush with new technologies, some not so much. Central Planets, them was formed the Alliance, waged war to bring everyone under their rule; a few idiots tried to fight it, among them myself" Book, from another: "After the Earth was used up, we found a new solar system and hundreds of new Earths were terra formed and colonized. The central planets formed the Alliance and decided all the planets had to join under their rule. There was some disagreement on that point." The Independants didn't want a central government, the Alliance did.
