I drove by the Expo Center and they've got seats out, they're setting stuff up, etc. I also saw that 1280 the Zone's got a van parked there... is the press conference going to be broadcast via radio? Anyone know?

Yes, I think that 1280 is broadcasting from there.
But for now, they are talking about BYU Pointyball.

I sure hope that isn't the actual drawing of the stadium posted on mlsnet.com. I think I see a stadium.

Okay, so in the picture they handed out, the one Fuegote found early on (props to you Monsieur Fue) there were cheerleaders. Well, on the BIG picture next to the stage they had removed the cheerleaders. Funny stuff. We also noticed that the score in the stadium, twelve minutes in, was 15 to 12. I hope RSL was winning. ha ha ha.

That was a cool event to be at. I wasn't on the bandwagon until April, so I didn't attend the naming ceremony or the announcement about the team, or anything, so this was a first for me. Very cool to be there.

I know that listening to 'Uncle Dave' talk about the reasons why he chose Sandy made me feel quite a bit better about it. I didn't mind, in the first place, but I definitely felt reassured. I really like the designs and pictures.
Question: Who has been to the HD Center in LA? The same chap who designed that stadium is designing our "Totally Awesome Stadium." I bet they share some traits. I hope good ones. Oh, they said 25,000, not 20k as KSL reported. Good news. Oh, bad news? ... they said there will be a stage on one end. I guess they'll make more money that way. I'll just be happy to stay there --- as long as it isn't some gaudy concrete monstrosity like pizza the HUT park. Yeah SSS for RSL.

Good points. I remember thinking the same thing as well. A lot of the politics of the situation were addressed, and they seemed to become diffused when discussed by the team and the politicians in an open way.
I also noticed that they said 25,000 instead of 20,000. The whole stage thing can become a relic if we can become one of the largest drawing teams in the nation - in essence requiring further development of the stadium, and perhaps the removal of the stage option in favor of additional seats. We have the power to affect change. __________________

The stage is the only part of the plan that I don't like. The rest is outstanding. I'm still hoping the design can incorporate some form of stands that can retract so that the stage is not permanent. But I do understand that to be economically viable, these stadiums need to accomodate concerts and other events in addition to soccer. And that means some kind of stage. As for the HDC, I've seen a number of games there over the last couple of years. Actually, I've got Quakes-Galaxy tickets for this weekend, so I'll be back there. Since we have the same architect, we're in good hands. I have the same reaction every time I'm at the HDC--the place is perfect. The stadium itself is well built and has perfect sightlines. But it's how the other design elements (roof, support buildings, scoreboards, stadium club) augment the design that make it so much better. The roof itself makes the HDC unique and gives it a traditional "soccer" appearance. As a soccer fan I always feel proud to walk in the place, even if the Galaxy aren't my top team. The designs I've seen so far for RSL's stadium have some of those same elements. The architect gets it--a stadium should reflect its city and its site. The Sandy facility will work well even though it's not downtown because the surrounding land will allow RSL to develop a true SoccerTown. It looks like we will get a first class facility for a first class team. __________________
