Future dates to remember (RSL related)

The US Soccer Federation announced yesterday the national team will be
based in Hamburg during the World Cup, scheduled in Germany from June
9-July 9, 2006. The United States will begin preparations with a
training camp in early January, then play home games Jan. 22, 29, and
Feb. 9 or 11, and visit a European country March 1, coach Bruce Arena
said after the US's 2-0 win over Panama last night. A US visit to
Germany is set for March 22, which will be followed by an April
training camp and three matches in May 2006.

The January home games will probably be at the Home Depot Center and/or Florida.

Maybe Pizza Hut Park.

Also, with a camp and 3 matches for April and May 2006, Pope and potential other USMNT on RSL will be missing a lot of matches in the first part of the season.

That is, if RSL has any USMNT players still. 🙁

What about players like Cabrera and Williams that play on their national teams. I'm not sure if Jamaica or Guatemala qualified. I suppose I could look it up before I post, but I'll just let all of you lambast me instead.

NO, DO8, both of those teams are out.

I know the league considered at one time taking a summer hiatus during part of the WC. I haven't heard anything recent though.

We're safe on that front. It's USA, Costa Rica and Mexico. T &T is in the playoff with Bahrain to got ot the world cup. I don't think the league will have a WC break. We're talking about them not playing for a month. The season already goes from April to November. So it would mean adding that many more weekday games and the league doesn't do well in getting butts into the seats for those.

Plus it will help RSL. I doubt Eddie Pope is going to make the roster for the USA. And I doubt we'd trade for a player that would be going to the WC both because of what teams would ' wouldn't give up for them and also that it's likely the player would be gone for a long time.

From an insider source:
Japan Today is reporting: Japan will face the United States in San Francisco in an international friendly in mid-February next year ahead of the 2006 World Cup in Germany.

Road my little Utahns?

??? I thought Eddie was pretty much a sure thing for the USMNT. I figured the only reason he has been called up for the last few qualifiers - when they wanted to see what newer guys can do, make decisions for the world cup roster - was to help organize/teach the newcomers and see what they can do working with a veteran. Unless he gets injured, Eddie will definitely play for the US in Germany.
