Besagno to be first pick!?!

Here is a little note that appeared in today's DesNews and the Salt Lake Tribune.

Both indicate the O'Rourke will be no better than the second pick.

While O'Rourke may be the best player in the draft, it's hard to pass up on all those Adidas Elite players. They don't count on the cap while O'Rourke would. That can make one of the younger kids look a lot more appealing especially for cash strapped teams.

Do you guys agree with RSL’s choice of Besagno over O'Rourke? It seems to me that we need someone that can step into the defensive midfield position and O’Rourke could certainly do that. Besagno is more of a choice for the future. Personally, I wish we would take O’Rourke because I feel like we need someone who can step in and do the job right now.

What do you think RSL’s philosophy is in taking Besagno?

I agree with Jason, besides Ellinger's experience with Nik, O'Rourke would have cost more.

BTW Czar, McKid and I are chatting about the Draft at this thread:

I doubt Besagno starts a d-mid this year. I asked Ellinger a similar question during the chat and he basically said that d-mid was too important to leave to a rookie and that they were looking for a more experienced player for that position. I look for an SI or trade to fill that need.

I like the Besagno pick up. RSL needs some young guys to fill up their 10 developmental roster spots. I think Ellinger would be a good judge of young talent so I look forward to seeing how he develops over the next couple of years.

I'm still not so sure about picking Besagno #1. Could we have gotten him in round 2? It sounds like nobody else really wanted him, and we could have used that coveted first pick for someone who will help our team immediately.

But I hope Besagno proves to be a great player, obviously.

Remember, Coach Ellinger knows this kid and knows exactly what he's getting. I assume (and hope) that he has a plan and knows how he wants to use him.
