The Revolution will visit LD Alajuelense in Costa Rica Feb. 22 in a rematch of the 2003 CONCACAF Champions League. The return match is set for March 8.

But both legs of the series, set for early in the Revolution's spring schedule, could be altered, according to general manager Craig Tornberg. ''We are looking to playing the [second] game in the most competitive way we can play it," Tornberg said yesterday. ''We have one of the best sides in the MLS and in CONCACAF, and we will have a competitive team for the Champions Cup."

The Revolution lost to Alajuelense, 5-3, on aggregate goals, in 2003, both games in Costa Rica.

Also in the Revolution-Alajuelense bracket are Mexico's Clausura winner, Club America, and the Caribbean Football Union champion. The Los Angeles Galaxy, who defeated the Revolution, 1-0, in overtime, in the MLS Cup final, will play against either CD Saprissa or Perez Zeledon of Costa Rica.

Once again, MLS has the opportunity to establish some actual international credibility. No one is pretending that anything CONCACAF has to offer is in the same category as the Libertadores or the Champions League, but we have to start somewhere.

We actually did better a few years ago, with title runs by DC and LA. We need more of that. Last year was not good. Here's hoping for better from LA and NE.

👍

This is exciting to me. As I said in another thread, I believe this is the way to get credibility for U.S. soccer. We have to win these things, to show the world that we really play soccer here in the U.S.
