That kind of sucks, but it's probably fair*. Also, it probably relieves a bit of the pressure that would come with being the "top seed".

the full deal:

---------------------------------
Pool One: Germany (hosts), Brazil (champions), Italy, France, Argentina, Spain, Mexico, England

Pool Two: Australia, Angola, Ghana, Ivory Coast, Togo, Tunisia, Ecuador, Paraguay

Pool Three: Croatia, Czech Republic, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Sweden, Switzerland, Ukraine

Pool Four: Iran, Japan, Saudi Arabia, South Korea, Costa Rica, Trinidad & Tobago, United States

Special pot: Serbia & Montenegro
---------------------------------

So which group would you like to be in? I think a matchup against any of the teams from Pool One will be great. I'd love to see a USA-France matchup (not because I think it's the most winnable, just that I'd love to see it)

*fair meaning that the U.S. probably doesn't deserve to be in the top 8. Doesn't mean that all of the teams that ARE in the top 8 deserve to be there 😉

I kind of want to play the Cote d'Ivoire. Just because I like Kolo Toure, mostly.

I still think it is odd that Mexico continues to rank higher than the US.

I don't so much mind it though... it just makes the Mexicans even more angry when we beat them, like it's unfathomable to them or something.

I think Spain might be the weakest of the seeded teams (Mexico excepted) just based on their lack of success in tournaments. From the familiarity factor I'd say Germany might be a good draw for the U.S.

Germany, Switzerland, Angola anyone?

I'd love to see Switzerland play.

I'd make a big sign that says "I should be watching Turkey right now".

How would playing against Germany IN Germany be a good draw?
