Di Canio (Lazio) in trouble... again.

The question is: Is such a salute in-and-of-itself punishable?

I'm sure his salute would have been rewarded between 1922 and 1943.

And how do you differentiate it from just waving to the crowd?

Paulo's antics are the least of Italian footballs problems right now.

because there is no waving motion, he holds his hand straight. Furthermore, he has been criticized in the past for doing it, this is not an apparition. AND he has been quoted as being sympathetic toward Mussolini, calling him misunderstood and etc.. I don't have a link on that, no.

All this in addition to the fact that he plays for Lazio (Nazio), the club adopted for whatever reason by the neo-fascist groups of Italy. It's been a big story here in Italy, on the news all the time.

However I don't think he should be fined or anything, he is free to salute however he wants. Hopefully he just keeps getting booed and whistled at (whistling is not friendly in Italy, for anyone confused)...

Good point. Ya, Paulo's clearly a character, to say the least. I was more worried in general about things getting too tight any over scrutinizing players actions.

I'd be worried about doing things like getting the nazi banners out fo the stadiums or enforcing finacial requirements for licensing or looking into bribery more than worrying about cracking down on things like this. Italy's a great country with great people and great players. The league and pro game in Italy though has a lot of problems and doesn't seem to really want to buckle down and take them on.

Yeah, that is true... if only Italy had someone in a powerful political position who was also interested in the well-being of Serie A soccer...

seriously, you'd think Berlusconi would be interested in fixing some of those problems.

I hate Lazio. Forza Roma! Berlusconi is on the winning side of the bribes so he does not have an interest in cleaning up the game. Berlusconi is as corrupt as they come.
