There is at least one winery in the Moab Area. Check them out!

I haven't found many I like...I've had Castle Creek, from Moab, not bad, but nothing to write about. I also went to a tasting to La Caille's vinyard...definitely not worth the effort.

I understand that there is a vinyard in Mt. Pleasant, but have never sampled.

My guess is that the best wine in Utah can be found at the wine store at 3rd and 3rd.
(honestly a decent selection)

I've been the wineries near Grand Junction.

As you could infer from the previous posts, Grand Junction has some wines that make Bartles & Jaymes seem like a classic Rioja.

But there's some good stuff scattered out there in the 970.

Watch out for their fruit wines. Unless you need to defrost your windshield.

Thanks, that one popped in my head after chatting with dad about wine again. I've had some decent wine out of Arizona (tombstone area, IIRC) before. So it's seems plausible that a few places may have figured out how to make some decent wine. Love the bartles and james description!

3rd and 3rd in SLC for a the best selection of wine? I thought there was a Utah liquor store further south, maybe in Murray that got kudos for it's selection of wines. Or is my mind failing me since I haven't had to use it for anything for the last 2 weeks?

Just cuz I'm young and single doesn't mean I'm going to be rash. I need time to think about these things! :D I'm kidding. I am pretty cautious in general so I'm sure that's factoring into my dawdling. I have set a "firm" time for myself to move, the end of march. That should help me have to dodge a couple lovely winter storms on the way out but somehow seems more sane than driving through the middle of winter. I wouldn't say it's a done deal but the Utah demographics articles back in July were very persuasive. So is some of the recent jobs reports. As the time approaches, I'll probably be looking for some specific info on some spots. I'm looking a bit at the Sugarhouse area or the Capital Hill area right now. But I'm not very good at making decisions especially with so much time to change my mind. :o

Thanks. I figured there would be a couple out around Moab and maybe along the way to Grand Junction since fruit's grown in that area.

I poked around and found the Arches Winery down near the south end of Utah Lake in Spanish Fork. I didn't notice any appellation's that were unique to Utah beyond the state so I figure that there isn't too much wine growing going on.

There's a State Ripoff Store on Fort Union just west of Highland Drive that has a ton of different wines.

I don't recommend going a few days before Christmas, though, or you really will be stuck with Bartles and Jaymes.

Arches Winery is headquartered in Moab. I don't know if the address in Spanish Fork is a warehouse or what, but given the way the DABC works, it's probably a holding or transfer warehouse--since they'd have to ship their stuff to the main DABC warehouse, who would ship it back to them to sell in their "own" DABC-licensed agency. (I used to work for DABC--Utah liquor laws are fun sometimes.)

They have several different varieties of varietal wines, and have won regional awards with just about every type. Their Chardonnays, Petit Syrahs and Gewurtztraminers are among the best.

And there is one designated "wine store," the one on 300 East between 2nd and 3rd South (across the street from The Bakery...mmmm...rice pudding). There are, however, also several other "regular" liquor stores that carry more wines than others, including the so-called "superstore" in Park City. Here's a list: Wine Stores

Good luck on finding good Utah wines--they may be few and far between, but they're worth it. Kinda like Utah microbrews.
