❓ J-League taking a break, MLS not

Well, the 2006 MLS schedule is out and it appears that Commissioner Garber and the rest of the MLS brass have decided to run a regular schedule during the World Cup. Luckily, most WC2006 games are on TV around midday, so there shouldn't be any overlap, and there are no MLS games on July 9th, the day of the WC final. How do you think this will affect the 2006 MLS season and U.S. fan involvement in WC2006?

I'm sure Trecker over at foxsports.com and others will argue that MLS should take a break, or at least run a lighter schedule during WC2006, like J-League is going to do. I'm not so sure that it matters. MLS will probably be missing around 10 players (edit: I suck at math, the number is actually a lot higher, I forgot to count MLS internationals), less than 1 per team on average (edit: once again, bad math), so hopefully the on-field talent level of MLS will not go down significantly (edit: no, this is now a definite concern). Fans will have many more games to enjoy. I know that I will be TIVOing the games I want to see and attending at least one RSL game during WC2006. I will also be inviting all my friends (and others) to watch the games, both WC2006 and RSL. I hope to enjoy 31 days of amazing domestic and international soccer. How about you?

Oh, and congrats to RSL for starting 2-0-0 in the preseason. Let's keep it up, guys!!!

What? RSL alone has the possibilty of missing 5 players; Pope, Klein, Tiger, Sequeira, and Torres. Are you forgetting that other countries play in MLS?

Whoops! There I go, being all U.S.-centric again...wow, my intelligence really shines through on that post. Kind of makes me look about as smart as a dancing banana holding a "poop" sign... :banpoop:

I'm still not sure how much potential impact there is. How many domestic and international MLS players may be called up? I knew there was a good reason to have little to no schedule during WC2006, I just couldn't remember why...

How is it that Superman, Batman and the wonder twins get the world cup off, but MLS doesn't. Just not fair.

If it's like 02, I'll end up paying little attention to the MLS while the WC is happening. And I'm not saying it as a snob, it's just a matter of priorities and there only being 24 hours in a day.
