You didn't hear them moaning because any taxes collected from downtown hotels and used on the Salt Palace (I don't know about the Delta Center, I think the funding was different) have translated into better business. (conventions, etc)

Face it, no downtown hotel believes they'll see any business from MLS. And yet they're expected to pay more than they did for the Salt Palace (The D.C. also was cheaper than "soccer city")

So you really can't make that comparison.

On top of that, there are other taxes to consider: sales, local option sales (which Aspen has, as does SLC, but less in SLC), and other taxes. You can't boil this down like that. There are a lot more ingredients in the tax pot to consider.

Way to go, legislature!!! Now, let's get the RSL media machine to convince the people that this is well worth their money...

Another thing

I don't think it's fair to mock the downtown hotels by saying they're crying over pennies (1.5% doesn't sound like much)

But put it into context. Over the next few years, $45 million dollars from Downtown SLC hotels will be siphoned into Sandy with absolutely no possibility for return.

Those aren't pennies. Frankly, I'd be pissed too.

How did the money collected from hotels in Sandy, WVC, Murray, etc. help businesses there as they were paying for the Salt Palace and other improvements downtown? No matter how much SLC wants to believe otherwise, there are other cities in the county. They should get county money occasionally too.

Again, how much extra business do the hotels in other cities in the county receive from the Salt Palace and the money they had to pay to get that done?

The DC was also built a long time ago. But when you actually translate the money used then into today's dollars, it comes out to be more money than is being used for the RSL stadium.

Actually I think that the amount of funding supplied to the Larry man when he built it in comparison to today's rates was more than what RSL will get for land in Sandy.

We have actually been all over this and we all know that you are against the stadium simply because it is going to Sandy so for the sake of sparing the dead horse... I will concede that you know better than everyone else... 🙄

Actually, the Delta Center and RSL are recieving the same amount of public money as a percentage of the total cost.

"Soccer City" is 150 million at least. Way bigger. Way more money.

And I'm not talking inflation. RSL is receiving more than Delta Center.

And when a new stadium is built for the Salt Lake Twins, everyone will forget about RSL's stadium.

That's because it really isn't.

There are hotels in other parts of the county other than SLC. Or are they exempt from the tax while only hotels in SLC will have to pay it?

Why? you are not paying it...unless you stay in a hotel! And the downtown hotels are not paying it either... No matter how much they want you to believe that... they are not paying the tax... the customers are!

Of course you are not, because that would blow holes all in your argument!
Face it, in comparison to the money of the time, Larry Miller got more money for the Delta Center land than RSL will get for the RSL stadium land

Ok sorry ... dead horse... I forgot... I am done now.... have fun every one!

Of course you don't want to talk inflation because when you do, your entire point becomes totally invalid. It's no wonder you want to ignore it and pretend it doesn't exist.
