Apparently, the people in charge disagree with you because a parking structure of some sort was part of the initial plan downtown. I have a hard time imagining them even considering such an expensive proposition if it were not needed.

And what would happen if there were an RSL and a Jazz game at the same time? Talk about a parking nightmare if we relied on the current facilities. People would have to be bus'ing in from other areas in SLC.

(Deuce and I are like the annoying sidekicks of Aero, hiding behind the bulk that is Aero and getting in a few nice jabs everyonce in awhile before ducking behind him again. 😁 )

Dullest Thread Ever. I can't believe I read the whole thing.

But since I did . . .

When I bring my inspection team to Salt Lake, we stay in Midvale. Why? Service and cost.

But we still pay the same tax.

Speaking of staying in Midvale, didn't Stucki indicate that he sometimes has to compete with the skiers and snowboarders for hotel accommodations in that area? Doesn't Stucki live in that area? Why would you need a hotel room in the same area in which... you.. live...

Uh... nevermind.

LOL I tend to agree with you. I'm tired of the whole topic. The facts are that the stadium is going to Sandy no matter how many people want it downtown. I guess all that's left now is for people to decide if not getting the stadium downtown where they wanted it will sour the grapes enough for them that they don't attend.

I always thought the stadium would serve as a good buffer between the railroad tracks and the planned residential area west of The Gateway. Especially if it was close to the intermodal station.

Many people have had that same thought. It's a good one.

It's very convenient to write this all off as sour grapes. I just really believe a stadium in Sandy is a bad idea, but downtown is a good idea.

As far as "trusting the money men" goes, I don't buy into that. After all, a judge just ruled the Fort Union Family Center was built illegaly and part of it would have to be torn down. That is a HUGE retail development. Several politicians were forced to apologize publicly including Randy Horiuchi, one of the players behind the stadium.

So no, I don't believe that might makes right. I really believe the "Soccer City" is a bad idea and the fact that there are people willing to put up the cash or it means little to me because I've watched land development issues in the County.

I guess I should be glad the rep system was cancelled.

I didn't write anything off as sour grapes. I simply said that it would be sour grapes if people decided not to attend games simply because the stadium ended up in Sandy instead of their preferred location downtown. It's easy to dismiss all of the points I've brought up because you believe I'm blaming it all on sour grapes though.

So far, the only reason you have given for Sandy being bad is because you believe the downtown hotels, which are in the county, shouldn't have to pay for any development in Sandy because it isn't fair for them. What other reason have you given? Here's your chance, put together a list of pros and cons for both sites and let's have a look at it. Let's see some actual reasons why you consider it a bad idea or a good idea rather than you just declaring them as such.

Of course you don't. Just like you didn't buy into inflation or the idea that there are hotels outside SLC. You don't buy anything that goes against the ideas you want to continue to cling to.

Why would anybody spend their own money if there was a way that they could get out of it? I'm sure that the parking was totally unnecessary and that the people willing to spend their money to build it were just throwing it away.

And that has what to do with the stadium besides a cursory attachment to one of the people on the Salt Lake County Council who wasn't going to be using his money and wasn't even involved when the original downtown stadium plans were drawn up using SLC RDA money?

So I guess there should never be any future land development ever again because people have messed things up in the past. If that is the best reason you have for not wanting it in Sandy, I've got bad news for you. The same people would be involved in building it downtown too. Maybe we should just forget the whole idea of a stadium since it is obvious that some land development has had issues in the county before.

All very valid arguements aside, I still don't want to drive to Sandy. I will, but it still sucks. No matter what.....the drive sucks. :nana:
