United States striker to stay with Fulham

LONDON (AP) - Brian McBride signed a one-year contract to stay at Fulham for next season. The 33-year-old United States striker, who this year will play at his third World Cup, would have been out of contract at the end of this season.

He scored 10 goals this season to make it 24 goals in 50 appearances for Fulham.

"I am delighted that we have secured the services of Brian for a further season," Fulham manager Chris Coleman told the club's Web site Friday. "I cannot speak highly enough about the player who has probably been one of our most impressive and consistent this season.

"Brian is a consummate professional who always gives 100 percent whether it's on the training pitch or in a game, and it's a pleasure to have him in my squad."

I'm hoping that we see McBride back in the MLS after one more year with Fulham.

I'm hoping he can play many more years in Europe, for his sake.

I always wonder where MCBride would've ended up had he not came back to the US and stayed in Europe.

Perhaps Bayern Munich. They can't help to have noticed him, given that one of his two goals with Wolfsburg during the '94-'95 season was a flying volley against Bayern Munich in the German Cup quaterfinals. His goal helped Wolfsburg upset Bayern 2-1.

I'm hoping he gets to play in Europe longer also, but I would like to see him come back and end his career in the MLS.

Even though he is still playing for Fulham, it looks like McBride is going to have to stop playing soon and have hernia surgery. The injury has been bothering him for several weeks now. Its not serious, but will take him off the field for about 10 days. The sooner he gets it done the better he will be come World Cup time.

By the way, Brian McBride did his usual ass-busting work yesterday and this time it really paid off! His Fulham team knocked off Chelsea 1-0 at home! The home fans then stormed the field to celebrate! Awesome!
