Hey, be careful what you say! They'll be strip searching everyone who tries to get into RES, on game day. 😲

I've got a disease... and the only prescription is more cowbell!

But seriously, Jim those are indeed appropriate times to blow the horn. My problem is when they drone on and on all game. It doesn't sound exciting, it sounds booooorring... blaaaaaaaaaaaah. But after our numerous goals... go for it!

Cowbells are hereby authorized, as well. They're very noisy, too.

Totally agree with the "appropriate timing" of noise.

Loud horns after goal = good.
Loud horns droning just because they can = bad.

Agreed! But you give a plastic horn to a bored kid/drunk adult and it never stops!

However the good news is Steve Pastorino "hates those plastic horns" and "they are not going to be sold at RES."

Straight from the man!

Jim, I don't think they will confiscate them tho!

Respect Jim's position, and I wish everyone who had a horn would use it that responsibly.

But they don't. The VAST majority are operated without a license or any sense of actually supporting the team. Parents use them to keep kids occupied during games, which means they'll be blown two inches from your ear from an hour before kickoff to when the fairweather fans head to the parking lot. My expriences in RFK and the HDC and Rose Bowl, where I've seen most of my MLS games, were not good when it comes to horns.

The bottom line for me is that my wife and kids, who love soccer, told me they would only go to a couple big games this year if the HDC still allowed horns. I'm telling you, it will hurt attendance if new fans are too annoyed to come back.

I'm hoping Steve Pastorino does ban the things. We can make plenty of noise without them. If we have horns at all, I want the real brass kind, playing in a Kop Band. Now that's how you use horns to get the crowd going.
