I have a feeling it was an anti-RSL person, he didn't seem to be cheering for the Red Bulls, just against RSL. I think he was just there to cause trouble. I was concerned though at how long it took security to get over there.

But back to the game! I thought RSL did a great job tonight, I saw a lot of things that I really liked. The reffing still is horrible, MLS needs to get their act together with this.

I'm tired, I'll comment more tomorrow.

all i have to say is that if we play the way we've played the last two games, we are well on our way. we'll get some things to bounce out way . . . i mean we just completely DOMINATED RBNY. I cannot remember dominating anyone like that last year, even the 4-1 game against dallas.

1) Klein is THE MAN
2) Mehdi played very well
3) Leave Williams alone, he's still doing great
4) Kreis is still king
5) garlick is a HUGE upgrade over countess
6) awesome crowd for a night with many other things going on and crappy weather
7) after watching our game then going home to see chaivas CHOKE, the overall play quality in the league this year seems very improved. i thought it may have been a start of the season thing the first 2 weeks but seeing it live and watching another couple games i am convinced its improving quite well.

I was good to go see RSL play again! Good times! I am quite happy and optimistic about the team. They looked good tonight. Luck eventually has to come on our side doesn't it?

Medhi is great out there from a creativity standpoint (I hope that his defense continues to improve). He just really adds another dimension to the attack I think. When Jason gets healthy I would be very interested in seeing Andy, Jeff, Jason, Chris, and Medhi on the field at the same time. I thought that Ryan Johnson also looked promising the few times he touched the ball.

The refereeing in MLS in general is quite bad. I hope that they figure something out soon. I only saw Medhi take elbows/punches twice. I can't imagine that the ref missed them. Why is that not a card again? I also was under the impression that grabbing and holding the other player/his jersey to impede progress was going to start drawing yellow cards this season. Am I wrong? This guy didn't seem to care and by the end of the game it was completely out of hand. I understand that not all the calls are going to be good, but can't the refs at least get the seemingly obvious stuff right?

Our distribution was so much better tonight. Like, I'm awed at the fact that we actually got the ball out to the flanks quickly on several occasions.

More comments tomorrowish because technically it IS tomorrow now...

not sure what the guy that got ejected was .... they didn't seem to cheer for nyrb or real UNTIL the goal .... that apparently then gave them the balls to start shouting at real fans. A few real fans threw streamers at them, a few went and shouted at them, and then our goal i think sparked more shouting at them which broke the camels back and started fight #1. didn't really watch them much but did notice the guy later decided to try and start a fight with one of the members of staff ... which i think was eventually what got him kicked.

As for the game:
I really liked the amount of possession we kept and the opportunities we made (although it would be nice to finish more off). I can't believe how much cunnigham was being pulled for offside when he (from my angle) didn't seem to be, and yet on the nyrb goal all their attackers seemed to be (again from my angle) 2-3ft offside.

Very glad for the equaliser ... the team deserved it, would have been very disheartening to play so well, dominate the game and not come away with anything.

And thanks for the warm welcome from everyone there on my first game ^^.

Fight etc

I wrote a bit about the fight on the "torcidos" thread, but 3 guys here came over to stand with us during the second half went over and harrassed that guy. Was he a NY fan I don't know. They were being pretty out of line, hitting him with things, etc, and I think he finally just took a swing at them.

About the game, much better! I agree RSL dominated out shooting the Bulls and earning more corners, etc. I agree with the better distribution comment. They got the ball out wide and were much quicker switching from defense to attack. I actually really enjoyed watching them. Frustrated with our lack of finishing but lets hope that is comming. And lets give props to Meola he may be old but he played a hell of a game. I was impressed with Williams effort and play. He really showed a lot of effort especially with how physically they were playing and how often the ref did not call fouls on their sloppy challenges.

About the cheering...it was fun to be in the section again cheering for RSL. I really missed the RCB's voices. I felt like we couldn't get as big a sound as last year. I couldn't even hear the RCB...I was wondering if maybe we could coordinate with them with like a walkitalkie so that if we were singing the same song maybe groups between us would pick it up. I was also wondering if maybe we could get more people to sit with us. I know there are a lot of loyalists that sit in other sections. We need them to come sit with us, if at all possible. We need everyone's voices and energy.

"Nelly" = "Shaky"

I know there are a lot of Akwari fans out there, but not me. He's a good guy, but a very shaky defender. When Talley was obviously going out, I leaned to my wife and said, "I hope they don't send in Akwari."

Uh-oh.

The NYRB goal was a result of a simple pass-out to Akwari on the left slipping through his legs and going out for the throw-in. In the next few seconds, he also went on walk-about as they broke through for the goal. It may indeed have been offsides, but that little mistake led to the goal.

Then when we went to the 3-man backline, he didn't close down and let in that dangerous cross that Garlick (praise heaven) somehow kept out.

Overall -- great game! I like what I'm seeing out there. Akwari was definitely the only weak link that I saw.

I'm still baffled about how Meola can completely wipe Williams out in the box and not make any contact with the ball and no penalty is called.

With regards to the fight. I didn't see any of it until security came and got into it. But if those guys were NY fans they were idiots. You don't make a big deal about your team's goal when you are only a few feet away from one of the home team's supporter groups.

I watched the MLSNet Highlights. Depending on how you look at it, either 6/9 or 7/9 were us (one being an amazing save by Garlick). :signrocko
