Hate to say it, but I'm not at all surprised. That's what happens when the new owners don't spend money since they're building a stadium. Maybe not the best strategy, but hey, we're getting a stadium next year so I won't complain much. Of course, it's not surprising we dropped between 2002 and 2003, consdering we led the league in attendance in 2002. I think we were only 2nd or 3rd in 2003. Then KSE bought the team...

Only because people in Denver like fireworks. It had nothing to do with the Crapids. Where were you ranked if you take the median instead of the mean?

Did they stop doing fireworks?

Let me help you with the question I asked in the previous post. The Crapids were 8th out of 10 teams when looking at the median in 2002. That's a fairly startling number for a team claiming to lead the league in attendance.

Are the Crapids a soccer team or an excuse to watch fireworks? I know which one I would pick if I lived in Denver and obviously the people living in Denver agree with me.

In 2002 it wasn't just fireworks. IIRC the Rapids hosted two major doubleheaders, one with the Nats and one with two Mexican teams.

And KSE continued to do fireworks, but they cut way way back on the advertising of those fireworks (And any other games). The 4th of July attendance constantly grew under AEG and it's dropped under KSE, while the fireworks haven't changed.

Depending on what you're concerned with either the median or the average is the important number. From a certain financial perspective the average is the important number, from a "level of soccer support" it's the median.

Since you quoted the average instead of the median, does that mean you aren't all that interested in the "level of soccer support" and finances mean more to you?

This is a serious post.

I just can't fathom ANYONE actually liking the Colorado Rapids! In fact, I get depressed even thinking about it. Denver is a depressing place as it is, and add to that the Rapids, and I just about want to cry! Perhaps if they moved elsewhere and changed their names it would purge the horrible taste in my mouth everytime I thought of them. Instead of fan groups, there should be support groups for those poor, poor people. 🙁

Nope, just that it was the data that I had remembered. It wasn't until the last couple of years that I had started considering the median so I didn't have any idea what those numbers were for 2002 and 2003.

But a part of me is more concerned about the financial aspects than the level of soccer support. Since I'm not a local the number of people in the stadium doesn't have a large effect on me, whereas the amount of money the team is bringing, and is it enough to keep the team going, does. I'm sure that would be different if I lived in Denver. And of course, through friendships I've made and fan organizations I'm involved in I want the Rapids fanbase to grow so that they are successful (Class VI, Centennial Firm, the Rocky Mountain Cup, etc.)
