Is there a Salray Cap for Coaches?

Seriously... I have been watching MLS for a few years... and more often than not the teams recycle coaches that have already been fired from somewhere else in MLS.

Why can't some team... say like RSL... go over to Europe, or down to South America, with serious money, and get a coach that is willing to come to America (Salt Lake) and take this team by the short hairs and work them into a winning team?

I say if this league wants to improve they need to not only bring in top quality players and develop them but they need to bring in top quality coaches from around the world and try different styles and see what works... I don't want the coach that Chivas (Bradley) Los Angeles (Sampson) or Red Bull(Johnston, Bradley) fired... they could not make a winning side out of those teams so why do we want to invest our time and effort into them?

Get some coaches from Europe and improve our coaches pool!

After Bora, Queiroz, Pareira & Westerhoff, I'm not too sure that foreign coaches are necessarily the answer.

This is MLS, where you have to deal with things that no place else in the world has; like salary caps, 6 hour flights to away league games and pairing central defenders where one of the guys turned pro when he was 15 and has been in a couple of World Cups and one guy was rush chairman of his frat 6 months earlier.

Best coaches in the league: Bob Bradley and Peter Nowak. Nobody has won in New York--that was not a good move for Bradley, who had established a top club in Chicago. Nowak's teams play like he played, and that means they win.

Bob Gansler also has been a consistent winner, but I don't even want to think about having to watch his team play every week. Steve Nicol is much like Nowak, but hasn't won a title yet.

JLL is right. MLS is unique and to succeed you have to understand the way the system works here.

Of course, none of the good ones are available. Except maybe Dave Dir.

DC is a fun team to watch. short, crisp passing, finding space, controlling the midfield and constantly moving.

<sigh>

I think I should retract my previous statement about not bringing in a foreign coach. Sort of.

Hey, KC, what's Hugo Sanchez doing?

-Hugo was once Jason Kreis' teammate and he even played in the NASL, so he is familiar with salary caps, field turf and other North Of The Rio Grande Soccer Quirks.

-I'd like to see the 5-time Spanish league scoring leader working with Harris, Watson, Ballouchy and Jimenez.

-Hugo is probably looking to prove that his most recent season in Mexico is an aberration and his back-to-back titles show what he really can do.

Not sure if Sanchez would come to Utah but it would be nice to get his caliber and passion back into MLS. I think he would be like a hispanic Nowak (minus the racism).
