Considering Brown was signed as a forward / midfielder and at that his wage isn't that far off Bobby Rhine's, I wouldn't be too worried.

Nik, well, when you have the #1pick and at that some of Addidas' money to play with that's what gets shelled out.

Actually, a lot players who don't make a decent living wage moonlight as paid trainers for youth soccer teams. They make good money doing it - up to $100 per training session.

And you have to remember their salary isn't for a year's worth of work. In the offseason a lot of the younger players (in most cases the ones making the league minimum) return home to live with family, reducing their living expenses, and they also get jobs. Also they continue to have medical insurance through their team, and when you really look at it, it takes a surprisingly small salary to live when you're single and your medical coverage is taken care of.
When I was in Long Island for a client training, I was talking to their network tech, and he was a MetroStars reservist. Actually, that year he was dropped but was trying to get back on. He "moonlighted" as a network tech.

I told him I was doing my part to try and help get the salaries raised.
