I'm very unhappy and despondent now. Why do these politicians have to bring up this crap?!?! I understand they want to be responsible about things, but why now, and over this topic? It almost feels that they're going above and beyond on this stadium issue as if they actually hate the sport or the team or are perhaps upset how the politics of the situation was worked against them before landing in their lap, and now their being vicious just for spite.

If this turns out bad, I'll actively work against them during their next elections!

Responsible? Good quality.
Showing a lack of vision? Bad quality. (looking only through 2015, and assuming RSL (and the rest of the league) won't grow throughout that period)
Spiteful? Bad quality.

I've had a lot of people comment to me at both the city and county level how different this has been from the Delta Center.

Mostly it's been

Larry Miller: cooperative and flexible
RSL: uncooperative and extremely demanding.

It also doesn't help that RSL "spokespeople" publicly belittle the process and those involved in it.

Maybe we need a charm offensive on our part, then.

My beef with all of this, especially the leaks, is that they seem cherry-picked to me. Where's the projections about the revenue from the hotel, or Dave C.'s TV operations? Where's the projections in regards to the new TV deal MLS just closed? (Kudos to someone at BS for that.)

My advice would be: Let them know. If you're a county resident, write or email your councilperson, and all three at-large members (Horiuchi, Wilson, and Bradley). Write a letter to the editor. Be nice and reasonable. Ask why those projections weren't fit to be included in the leak. Ask whether those opposed have valid reasons, or are flogging their own agenda. Most businesses (and hopefully therefore governments as well) count one letter as being representative of 500-1,000 similar opinions not expressed. If we can stuff a GOTW poll, we can certainly make a difference in how support for RSL is perceived.

It's very believable that this leak was meant to give County officials some cover with the legislature and Dolan.

Personally, I believe RSL's political problems are self- inflicted wounds. RSL has played this very, very badly.

Checketts needs to dump Howes and Love,

wipe the slate clean, get on his knees and ask SLCo "What do I need to do to get this done?"

There's plenty of room for criticism in this, but I'd hardly give a pass to city and county officials, none of whom have covered themselves in glory here.

Looking at it from a distance, I see mostly petty political maneuvering and comical grandstanding, all predicated on the perception that most voters in Utah don't support soccer so there are political points to be made.

All this obscures some legitmate concerns about fiscal viability that have to be answered before public money is committed to the project. But that's what we get with all these layers of government involved. Necessary, but frustrating.

As for RSL, they've made some mistakes along the way but most of this mess is not of their doing. I'm confident they can get the stadium built. These things are never easy, as we've seen repeatedly in San Diego. Everyone loves PETCO Park now, but it took years to sort through the political opposition. Hopefully, Salt Lake County is better run than what i've seen in Southern California.
