Eric Wynalda & Marcello Balboa picked their USA 23 for Soccernet. And for some bizarre reason that I can only guess was payola, they both have Chris Klein on their lists. I would be shocked to even see Klein on the alternates list.

The supposedly leaked list I have seen does not have Kreis on it.

Goalkeepers:
Keller, Hahnemann, Howard

Defenders:
Pope, Cherundolo, Onyewu, Lewis, Bocanegra, Gibbs, Hejduk, Albright

Midfielders:
Reyna, O'Brien, Donovan, Dempsey, Beasley, Mastroeni, Convey, Olsen

Forwards:
McBride, Twellman, Johnson, Wolff

The only guy on that list that I can see Klein beating out is Ben Olsen. I'd say it's probably 90% at least that Klein is not in the final 23. We'll know for sure soon enough.

I wonder if Bruce is having second thoughts about starting Pope after last Saturday...

Steve Goff of the Washington Post has claimed that inside sources have told him DC United midfielder Ben Olsen WILL be on the team. No surprise to me. Goff says that Olsen was told by Coach Arena over the weekend that he was on the squad.

More stadium banter.

http://www.sltrib.com/contentlist/ci_3774539

Notice the last couple of sentences. We are dealing with complete soccer illiterates. Apparently there is some type of "World Cup" exhibition game being played this summer in Provo instead of in Salt Lake.

Dumb asses.

While you are correct re their misstatement of what the game is, they are correct in that it is a total slap in the face to the County and is horribly timed...

The hypocrisy there knows no bounds. Ms. "Let's refit RES for soccer" Jenny Wilson doesn't understand why a world-class team like Real Madrid (or whoever we get) won't play on turf? Mr. "RSL's losing money so I'm going to tell" Mark Crockett doesn't understand why we wouldn't want to spend another $300,000 on sod? Grrrrr.

It looks to me like the Trib's gone to the other side on this one. They've also got an editorial AND Bagley cartoon about it all. I'm tired of them having the "leaked" documents but then cherry-picking the stats they want to talk about. In the interest of full disclosure, you'd think they'd have a PDF up so everyone could have a look. But they don't. Interesting.

It does not matter what RSL does... It will be a slap in the face of the county or that of Salt Lake City... No matter how it is presented some grandstanding politician will turn it into a slap in somebody's face...

have you folks not gathered that we are not getting a stadium? Larry Miller and his political ass-puppets are not going to allow it!

If we do finally get a stadium will either be 10 years from now... just like Harrison NJ, or it will be for Larry Millers' Major League Baseball team, and RSL will be playing in Madison Wisconsin or some f**ked up place like that!

Because councilmen are more concerned about getting their names in the paper, grandstanding and embarrassing Dave Checketts than they are about what is GOOD for the county.

Only for those who are uninformed enough to let themselves be slapped.

Having the game in Provo means we get to see Real Madrid. Having the game at RES means we get another visit from Universidad Catolica.

What it comes down to is that RSL is doing a sub-par job of explaining decisions like this to the community. Consequently these politicians appear to the equally-uninformed general public to be making valid statements.
