Oh boy, this is getting ugly. Now we have cancelled today's meeting with the county. I'm starting to think we should abandon the Sandy deal. Is anyone else feeling the same way? Could the FO be feeling the same way? Look at this quote. "We just don't feel we can negotiate with the county in good faith at this point, given what's transpired in the past five days," Reak spokesman Tom Love said. "We want to know if they're sincere about this at all. The ball is in their court, and all options are open for us. All options are open for us? Could that mean they may be looking at trying to go back to Downtown or maybe to Murray? I think Dave should try to work to privately fund the entire stadium and build Downtown, to hell with Sandy!

The final word on the release of the documents, imho: Quote:
The FO needs to get over it, they are in no position to dictate the terms of negotiations from here on out. What they should be doing is crawling to the county on hands and knees. It sucks, but that is the way it is. (I am on my city's economic development commission which handles grant requests like this, and the politics of these kinds of groups are such that someone requesting money should never act like they have the upper hand, even if they do. That is a sure-fire way to get your request denied. I imagine it is 100 times worse with the group RSL is dealing with.)

I'm just hoping threre's a team here in a couple of years.

The question is whether the initial goodwill for the downtown idea has been squandered. I hope it hasn't.

Very well said. I hope the FO reads this.

Don't worry. We can always watch the Salt Lake Marlins or the Salt Lake Twins.

Me too. This is really starting to look bad. Various government agencies and media sources are all really ganging up on RSL right now. No other sports team in this area has had to put up with this sort of bull****. It really appears that a lot of people want the team to fail or move to another city so then they can say "see what we saved you from" and feel important. I doubt that RSL can really play very long in Rice-Eccles and succeed.

It's going to be a shame when the team, despite a good business plan and a good location, is run out of town by a small group of know-nothing activists. And they'll be the most surprised of all when the next big-league sport passes on a Salt Lake franchise because of what we went through.

I think that everything you say has merit. However, the Front Office's response to all of this has only made the situation worse. They should not be afraid of transparency in doing business with local government. Unless, of course, they have something to hide.
