Good win. Well played.
Of course RSL fans were negative going into this game. An 18-game winless streak and wildly inconsistent play will do that to you. We still have a long way to go, but for the first time our club played 90 minutes of committed, organized soccer. No small achievement. Now, can we do it again? KC is missing two and a half key players. The biggest loss in Conrad. They have the most infuriatingly disciplined tactical approach to the game, thanks to Bob Gansler. But if you saw their loss to DC on Saturday, they have very little offensive punch without Johnson and Wolff. We get them on the fuzzy concrete at altitude. If we play the way we did yesterday . . . __________________

My input for what it's worth .... I'm just a 'sideline reporter' so takes it for what it's worth. The vets getting with Coach had nothing to do with Andy not playing, it was coaches decision and no one elses. Kreis didn't freeze out anyone, it's certainly not his style, bottom line is that Cabrera simply isn't good enough and did not deliver on his potential, his lack of effort learning English was frustrating for the whole team and his comments about his 'team' make it clear that his attitude is a huge problem, Torres can communicate no problem with his teammates - that's the difference, and fyi everyone assumes a lot when they assume that coach picked all the players, nuff said. The vets did not 'come to Coach E., he called a meeting and they attended and they worked it out as teams are supposed to.

REAL SALT LAKE MIDFIELDER CAREY TALLEY
On the game: "There is no feeling like winning. I think that we came out in this game, we knew some of our higher-profile palyers were not going to be here, and we came out and showed that we were a better team. We deserved that 3-0 win. That was for the people of Salt Lake to thank them for believing in us and show them that we still believe in them." Well put. __________________

Holy crap! What is your issue? You sound so sour, just bitter. Why don't you just start a thread called 'Whining whiners that whine no matter what' and live there? Are you capable of being positive for just five minutes? RSL just won their first game in 18 and all you can do is piss vinegar. Perhaps there is a team that needs your version of support? In my school days we called kids like you glory hunters. I have no problem with constructive criticism, Rover and PRK are good examples of that, many others too but you just never seem to have anything useful to say, nothing positive, nothing hopeful, you must be a bundle of joy at parties when you don't get the biggest present. First off, LA have some good players that they chose not to play and I"m not sure which game you watch but Wolyniec did a bloody good job in the first half and I wouldn't say Thiago is a lame duck, you are seriously saying that they have no MLS players? Are you seriously suggesting that because you think their coach is a whacko that we should throw the game because it wouldn't be worth anything to win against a whacko? Should we wait for a coach that arrives on his stead at each game before we put in any effort again? You lose credibility in my eyes right there but lets go on anyway ... in talking to said players that arrived at the hotel at 2am - yes our hotel - they had tons of energy and looking at Martino's play how you could suggest he didn't contribute is laughable. You seriously don't raise any reasonable points but I'll bite anyway cause I'm sick of all this vinegar urination. Do you think all the Liverpool fans are at home on Merseyside now saying, 'Phew that was close, mind you we didn't deserve that, we played a team that wasn't very good, we suck because we got knocked out of Europe early as Champions; we suck, hey I know fellow scousers lets make a list of every negative thing we can think of about Liverpool! Let's forget the celebrations, great! A reason to see the down side of a win!' I think not. They won, they don't care how because in bragging to the lads on the other side of Stanley Park all that counts is that the FA Cup is back on Merseyside for the 7th time in 13 finals. You think anyone still talks about the first half Milan played? No, people just say it was the greatest comeback in a cup final ever, oh and that Liverpool get to keep the cup since it's the fifth time. When they sucked in the first half of Saturdays game the fans gave a rousing 'You'll never walk alone' to spur the team on, they didn't all go to the website afterwards and whine about why the win doesn't count. You seriouly discount the effect this win has had on the attitude and mentality of the players, and as I sat there discussing it with some players over pizza it was obvious that they veiwed the KC game with different eyes. Football mate is about winning, we all get it, RSL have for the most part not played well, at times we have been embarassing to watch, without passion and sometimes without a plan, a few times we lost games we deserved to win. Last night the bounces went our way for the most part, but when we win I don't care if it bounced off a gopher popping his head out of the ground at the edge of the box and deflecting it in off his little yawning head past a goalkeeper who plays fifth string for the under 12's club whilst he's asleep - if we win please lets just enjoy it for a little while, can you just take a day off. Do you think for one second that all of the other teams that have beaten us for the past season and a bit have discounted the games or their teams performances because it was only RSL? No. In fact even Sigi said last week that his team played pretty badly and didn't exactly deserve to win but he didn't care because a good team can win even if they play badly. He didn't say 'Well we don't count this one because it's only RSL' and he didn't say it in private before you wonder, and yes I do know that for a fact. Do you see all their fans saying the same things you are saying? No, I hear some constructive criticism, occassional moans but nothing like the express sourness from a few of the supposed fans here. Look I'm not saying I know more than anyone else about football, but I have lived and breathed the terraces of my team since I was able to gurgle and being a fan to me is more about supporting my team through thick and thin, even if I disagree a few times or even a lot of the time not just until they aren't winning. Maybe I am just a pathetic optimist, maybe I don't coach in the wonder realms of Utah soccer, I certainly am not good enough for that, I doubt honestly I could coach the said gopher and his team but that's a different story ... but maybe it's time we had a pessimists section and an optimists section so that people can piss vinegar in peace and misery and others can hopelessly hope in peace and happiness. Don't misunderstand me, constructive criticism - yes, valid, even demanding questions - yes, I can even cope with calls for a coaches head, but blatant lies and destructive campaining - no. Now that I think of it, Klein took most of the free kicks didn't he? And with the way Kreis was playing last night, was RSL playing a 4-4-2? 4-4-1-1? 4-5-1? __________________

Good rant, Scholesy! I want into the optimists section, thank you! Even I was finding it hard to be optimistic, until this game. Now we're back in business. Next game prediction: we win by 2 goals. One from Kreis and one from Cunningham. We play like we mean business. And Watson gets in for at least a few minutes. Yeah! Isn't it great to be an RSL fan?

I've been optimistic all season and after 6 kicks to the groin, I decided to be cautiously optimistic.
one win does not a trend make. If they win this week....then we have something to be excited about. __________________

I thought RSL played a great game. Not perfect, but very solid. I'm a little amazed at how many people are down on Kreis after this one. Why? Because he didn't have the most passion in an RSL uniform? Because he didn't score own only goal? It isn't because he didn't play his butt off. I guess I hear some complaint that he played more of in mid-field than forward. So what? He was a solid part of the team effort and he'll continue to provide great encouragement and strength to the team in future games. Also, Akwari bashers are starting to bore me. He's not an All Star, but I didn't see a whole lot to say he didn't play his role at a MLS level. The MLS is short good defenders and no team can loose a player on defense like the Pope and not feel it a little. Akwari was a big part of the first d-line this year that produced a clean sheet. Give up this hope that we have the next Pope on the reserve team and cheer on those that we have on the field. Finally, Watson was a fun guy to watch last year because of his passion. Some days he seemed to be the only one with passion in an RSL uni. Unfortunately for Waston fans, I'm not sure we will see much of him this year. Who are you going to bench to get him in the game? Attiba is playing better than we could have dreamed. Kreis is the team leader. There's way too much at stake to keep Cunny down for long. I don't know if Watson can play left wing, but you can't displace Mehdi from there anyhow, except if you went with Johnson in that spot. I'd love to see Waston play and play well, but to me his time in reserve is a sign that the team is much better than last year. We are going to see more wins this year.
