Just my letter to Mr Positive and his editor... Its people like you - Simon Kuper - that continue the myth that England will never accomplish anything, its people like you who helped me make the decision to move to the USA where positive thought and dreaming are not crimes, it is only in the view of the twisted view of the British ‘press’, I use that term loosely because Great Britain doesn’t really have a press – we just have cynical whiners like you that serve their insecurities and lack of confidence by belittling everyone else and their efforts to dream and ultimately efforts to achieve; in fact I would even suggest that you are and people like you are a major factor in the losing habit that England finds itself in. You are I am sure convinced that no one in England including the country itself deserves anything other than consistent punishment for once having an ‘empire’. There is, contrary to your lack of logic and over indulgence in pessimism, nothing wrong with believing, with being positive and hoping that one day the bounce may go our way; that this might be the team; that we might win, else why play sports at all without a hope that one might win one day. If the managers and players went into the world cup saying that they stood little chance of winning, didn’t really want to play and that it was really fair play that a cheating, drug addict scored a winning goal using his hand and that despite everyone else seeing it the referee didn’t and let the goal stand thus cheating England out of a fair game – not a win – just a fair game. Or would you suggest we just do away with the silly game and once every four years just mail the World Cup to Brazil and save a whole lot of hassle and then you could just keep doing what you do and write negativity every 4 years and then get a real job where you contribute something to the English society in stead of trying you best to take something away every time you ‘write’. I suggest you adopt a new country (assuming that you are English, but hoping that you are not) where you can continue to extol the virtues of cheating and pessimism. Feel free, in fact I invite you to take your Tower of London worthy negativity and disloyalty and leave the wonderful country that has in fact done many wonderful things for the world, not least of all introduced the one thing that can stop a war on Christmas day - the beautiful game. Yeah, I do but I thought it rather more insulting to his ego to pretend I don't. | |||||
