Extra Time Format With the knockout phase of the World Cup rapidly approaching, I had a question about the extra time format. The last two World Cups have been "Golden Goal" sudden death overtimes, but previously it was just 2 15 minute halves, whoever is on top at the end wins (or shootout in a tie). Is this world cup "Golden Goal" format? I bring this question up because I played to a draw in FIFA World Cup '06 and went into overtime, scored a goal, but the game continued, as the default was two 15 minute overtimes.

Quote:
If, in accordance with the provisions of these Regulations, extra time is to be played as the result of a draw at the end of normal playing time, it shall always consist of two periods of 15 minutes each, with an interval of five minutes at the end of normal playing time, but not between the two periods of extra time. If the score is level after extra time, penalty kicks will be taken to determine the winner, in accordance with the procedure described in the Laws of the Game. __________________
