I'll even bet that he knew that there would be explicitly religious overtones to what he did and will eventually admit it in public. If I am not mistaken, Egypt and Israel are still technically at war, or were until just a couple of years ago...their disingagement agreement wasn't a true truce (much as how the US and North Korea are still technically at war). In that context any waving of an Israeli flag is exactly cognate to a player waving an Al-Qaeda or North Korean flag.

Don't get me wrong...I think this is one of the coolest things I have seen a player in a World Cup do in a long time.

Egypt is one of two countries that have signed a peace treaty with Isreal, Jordan being the other. The Egyptian-Israeli Treaty brokered by Pres. Carter at Camp David is probably what got Anwar Sadat assasinated.

That doesn't mean that illiterate peasants aren't still taught hatred of Israel and the west by politically opportunistic imams.

Sorry, the geography geek in me jumped out again.

I think one thing we can all agree on is that terrorists need no excuses, no reasons, and have no justifiable excuse for the murders and evils they commit. If it wasn't a flag it would be a dog that crossed the road with the wrong type of walk, they will always have hatred in their cold hearts for all things not their version Islam, which is not the version that a good portion of Muslims believe in.

I'm English but have both the USA flag and the English flag up at my home, I live here i love this country, so I fail to see why someone else who lives in another country can't show that appreciation and love for that country. Maybe it was not his wisest move, maybe it was him showing courage that he will not be intimidated by evil bullies who threaten death to anyone who does not hate the west or Israel.

Either way I too don't think it is anyones business why he feels it necessary to wave a flag, he doesn't need a reason - it's called freedom and it's what we base our existence on.

Post of the month.

And all Mormons are polygamists, too.

I hope nobody here is uninformed enough to stereotype a few million peace-loving arabs as terrorists because of a determined, fringe minority. There was no terrorism involved in this incident and there is no reason why it should be discussed here, as far as I can tell.

Antithesis of post of the month. (I wanted to use antithesis too)

Not so. The Community of Christ (formerly the RLDS) reject portions of Mormon scripture that state that Polygamy is a requirement for the highest level of heaven. However, they do believe in the Book of Mormon, and as such fit under the general heading of "Mormons".
