I hope you're right, but this sounds more like somebody who's already made up her mind, and she's not going to let a bunch of pesky facts influence her opinion. As Aero already mentioned,
1. I agree that $90M is financially irresponsible and would ruin the county. But that's not the proposal now, is it?
2. The $7.2M went directly to youth soccer.....isn't that one of her conditions? But now she's making it sound like Dave should've applied that money to the stadium. Which way does she want it?
I have a feeling no matter what Dave/Dolan propose she will take the opposite side. I hate that kind of politics. I just hope I didn't vote for her.

From the beginning, Mayor Corroon recommended a three step approach to analyzing the soccer proposal. Those steps are as follows:

1. Analyze the Real proposal to determine if the financial request is in the best interest of Salt Lake County residents and taxpayers. Factors determining that analysis include the interest paid on the bond, the effect on the bond rating of the County, the security of the bond (collateral), and the total amount borrowed and paid back.

2. Engage in a public policy discussion with the Salt Lake County Council and other public officials to determine whether a public investment in a private enterprise of this nature is good public policy and if so, what are the public benefits? Additionally, the policy would address the issue of funding any enterprises of a similar nature.

3. Perform due diligence on REAL's pro forma, business plan, major league soccer as a long term event, risk assessment, and exit strategies for the County if Real or major league soccer does not survive.

I believe that this three step process is appropriate and absolutely necessary in order for the County to make a decision that benefits and protects its citizens. All three steps must be satisfactorily addressed before the Mayor would make any recommendation to the Council for an approval of the Real request. I agree whole heartily with his process.

The first proposal by Real to Salt Lake County did not make it through the first step of the Mayor's three step process. Real's proposed financial arrangement was far too costly to County taxpayers and the County's exemplary bond rating could be jeopardized by the financing scheme. Mayor Corroon made the appropriate decision to reject the Real proposal after it failed to make it past the first step in his established process.

I will be interested today to see Real's new proposal. If it adequately addresses the financial issues outlined in the first of the three steps in the process, then we can move to the debate regarding the public policy issues associated with the request.

Once again, I thank you for your interest in this issue and for sharing it with me. I can assure you that the process established by the Mayor is a good one and that his concerns are exclusively to protect County residents and the investment of their tax dollars.

My letters are in, though in the interest of space I won't share them here. My family is good friends with the Horiuchi's, my dad was actually Randy's campaign manager a long time ago, so I sent him a nice chummy e-mail and I asked my dad if he would do the same.

If any of these people owes you a favor (personal, sexual, or otherwise 🙂 ), I urge you to call in this favor.

Thank you for your response.

While the mayor's concern to "protect County residents and the investment of their tax dollars" is a good one, I hope it's not indeed an "exclusive" concern in this matter. There's more to this than protecting money.

Good luck today.

When I get a canned response like that of Bradley and Wilson, I don't reply because I don't believe they actually read the email. I am sure they have interns read them and respond in accordance with a pre-determined set of rules.

Interns instructions,
If they oppose; send this one...
if they agree; send this one...
if they attack; send this one...
If they want to give me lots of money; forward it to my home email so I may contact them at a more appropriate time!

But in all fairness I sent the same email to all of them. So I can't really sling too much poo for a canned response.

I thought Jenny Wilson's was a canned response, but she responded to my reply. Kudos to her for doing so, too.

Eric:

I have seen nothing to suggest that the Mayor will do anything but weigh the best interests of the citizens of this County in all of his decision making processes.

Thank you again for your comments.
