Aha. My bad. If I were him I would be looking to play for Ghana. As a USMNT fan, I REALLY hope he goes and plays for Ghana.

He also did well against the Richmond Kickers in last year's US Open Cup. That doesn't mean he should be representing the US. Come to think of it, Tarley looked pretty good against us last year too, didn't he? I fear that marketing forces might prevail and make Adu part of the USMNT if he sticks around much longer.

Are you implying that you think media and marketing have made the demand for Freddy to play the U.S. Nats so strong that regardless of skill he will? I mean everyone knows his invite to camp this past year was due purely to the amazing skill he showed as a spark off the bench for DC United. Remember when it comes to Adu hype... :signfutil __________________

I do think Adu has potential. Is he the second coming of Pele'? I don't think so, but he definitely holds promise for only a 17 year old.
If I was going to predict his future, going abroad might be best for him, he seems to want the Euro experience (see Eddie Johnson) but I hope that he at least gets some more caps so he can prove or disprove himself on the int'l stage.

Why you wouldn't want Freddy in the USMNT player pool is beyond me. We just played 18 months of uninspired soccer as a national side (it wasn't just the World Cup where we looked poor - 4-1 loss to Germany anybody? Morocco? The list goes on....)
Bottom line is that right now we don't have a presence in the middle of the field that can take the ball at defenders. Sure, Freddy frequently looks soft and unsure of when to hold the ball and when to pass. BUT, we don't have anyone to really soften up the middle of the field as a dangerous presence on the ball. That makes it easier for teams to sit back and defend the passing lanes on the wings knowing that we aren't going to challenge them through the middle. For that reason, why NOT try and develop Freddy for USMNT? The worst that can happen is that someone better comes along and the Coach tells Freddy, sorry, 2010 isn't in the cards either.

We know for a fact that Freddy has the diving part of being a World Cup forward down pat.
